Job description

The Role

New Media is a16z's thought leadership engine โ€“ home to some of the most influential voices in technology, policy, and culture. Events are a core part of how New Media shows up in the world; they deepen relationships, surface ideas, and create moments that extend the firm's reach and amplify its brand.

The Events Partner for New Media is a senior operator responsible for designing and executing a portfolio of highโ€‘impact experiences โ€“ from intimate community dinners to multiโ€‘day summits and leadership retreats. This role requires someone who can move between strategic planning and groundโ€‘level logistics without losing a step. The person will understand that no two events are the same and will hold themselves to the highest bar, because these experiences reflect the firm's brand, relationships, and reputation at the highest level.

The preferred location for this role is San Francisco Bay Area, CA. We will consider candidates in New York City, NY. The role will require inโ€‘office presence from time to time.

To join our team, you should be excited to:
  • Design and lead a suite of highโ€‘impact experiences, from intimate community dinners to multiโ€‘day summits and leadership retreats โ€“ bringing creative vision and a constant push to elevate the guest experience; this is not a rinseโ€‘andโ€‘repeat role
  • Partner directly with senior executives, GPs, and prominent external figures to shape experiences that reflect the firm's brand and deepen its most important relationships
  • Own all operational logistics including venue sourcing, vendor negotiation, contract management, and onโ€‘site production for both inโ€‘person and virtual formats
  • Build and manage event communications campaigns; own the outreach calendar, track registrations and engagement, and adjust strategy based on data
  • Produce postโ€‘event reporting including budget reconciliation, attendee feedback, and ROI analysis; translate lessons learned into improved processes and future planning
  • Partner with editorial, communications, and design teams to develop branded collateral and ensure events are integrated into broader marketing efforts
Minimum Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in event management, with a proven track record across complex, highโ€‘visibility events, consistently raising the bar on guest experience and bringing fresh thinking to every format
  • Poise, influence, and discretion working directly with senior executives, investment partners, and prominent external figures; not just executing on direction, but actively shaping it; able to articulate recommendations, push back when needed, and influence senior stakeholders with sound judgment
  • Strong operational instincts โ€“ able to manage vendors, contracts, and onโ€‘site logistics while staying calm under pressure
  • Proficient with CRM and event tools (Salesforce, Marketo, or equivalents); comfortable with data, reporting, and ROI analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; sharp eye for detail and a high bar for quality
  • Experience with community building and network engagement
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by it โ€“ able to translate loosely defined goals into creative, executable plans and build the playbook when one doesn't exist
  • Low ego, high empathy, and genuinely collaborative across functions and levels
  • Ability to travel up to 30โ€“40% of the time

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $221,000 โ€“ $258,000; actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401(k) plan, vacation, and sick leave.

At a16z we are always looking to hire the absolute best talent and recognize that diversity in our experiences and backgrounds is what makes us stronger. We hire candidates of any race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital or family status, disability, veteran status, and any other status.
