Job description

Founded in Silicon Valley in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Andreessen Horowitz (aka a16z) is a venture capital firm that backs bold entrepreneurs building the future through technology. a16z has $100B+ under management across multiple funds. We've invested in companies like Affirm, Airbnb, Coinbase, Databricks, Figma, GitHub, Instacart, Pinterest, Roblox, Stripe, and Substack.

a16z speedrun is the firm's program to invest in, and help, new startups. We run a 2x/year program that spans 12 weeks, with dozens of startups working out of a16z's offices in SF and LA. So far we've invested in over 150 startups with $180M+ in capital deployed.

The Role

We are looking for a driven, founder-fluent marketer to lead all aspects of applications marketing for speedrun. This is a high-ownership, high-visibility role that sits at the intersection of content, campaigns, and community. You will own the speedrun brand voice, drive application volume and quality, and represent a16z to a global founder audience. The ideal candidate is a generalist with a talent for content marketing and multi-channel campaigns. This person will know the founder landscape deeply and can speak authentically to the communities where these founders live, work, and play. The opportunity will shape how the next generation of founders discover and engage with a16z.ย 

This role will be required to be in-person in the San Francisco office.

Run Founder Application Campaigns

  • Drive application volume and quality across campaign cycles.
  • Own the full campaign cycle for founder acquisition inclusive of channel mix, asset pipeline, paid media (X, LinkedIn), and net-new growth levers including alumni referrals and word-of-mouth programs.
  • Develop and execute strategies to reach underrepresented and emerging founder communities.
  • Partner with the investing team to align campaign messaging with fund priorities and portfolio themes.

Content Marketing

  • Own and grow the speedrun newsletter (200K+ subscribers); write or edit every issue, keeping it genuinely useful and relevant to early-stage founders.
  • Represent speedrun by producing your own content and posts.
  • Run social across X, LinkedIn, Reddit, TikTok, and dark social channels.
  • Surface the best of the speedrun portfolio and community through founder spotlights, cohort stories, and demo day coverage.
  • Build and maintain speedrun's brand voice as the definitive destination for pre-seed founders.

Operations & Analytics

  • Partner with internal stakeholders across deal teams, operating partners, and GPs.
  • Manage the campaign calendar and own the marketing tooling stack (HubSpot, Substack, social accounts).
  • Keep reporting tight across application windows, track top-of-funnel metrics, conversion rates, and community growth.
  • Leverage AI tools and automation to drive efficiency while maintaining a human-in-the-loop on all founder-facing channels.
  • Manage external agencies to support execution.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 7-10 years of experience in marketing, content, or growth ideally within venture, tech, or a high-growth startup.
  • Deep familiarity with the founder and startup ecosystem.
  • Strong written communication skills: you can produce and edit newsletter content that founders actually want to read.
  • Proven experience running multi-channel marketing campaigns with measurable outcomes.
  • Strong operator: with a track record of building acquisition campaigns from scratch. You can manage a campaign calendar, own tooling, and keep reporting clean
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to operate with significant autonomy in a fast-moving environment.
  • Experience with HubSpot, Substack, Paid social, and analytics platforms.
  • Genuine passion for early-stage founders and the pre-seed ecosystem.
  • Low ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Ability to quickly build trust with cross-functional teams and founders.

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $241,000 - $281,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
