Job description

The Public Relations Manager implements the strategic direction and oversight for NEMS' communications and public relations efforts. This role develops and implements integrated strategies that drive enrollment, engagement, revenue, and overall brand visibility across all program areas. This role also owns media responsibilities to ensure seamless integration for NEMS communications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Public Relations

  • Leads organization-wide communications and public relations strategy.
  • Leads media relations and public relations efforts, positioning the organization as a visible and trusted community leader.
  • Develops and delivers content that drives member engagement and deepens relationships.
  • Provides governance across channels to ensure alignment with brand.
  • Communicates effectively and presents recommendations, performance, and insights to executive leadership; influences decisions and drives alignment across senior stakeholders.
  • Strengthens the organization's reputation and community presence through relationships with partners, stakeholders, and the broader community.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with journalists, news outlets, or other members of the media with the goal of generating positive coverage of the organization or its products/services.
  • Drafts and distributes press releases, fact sheets, or other documents for presentation and solicits news coverage.
  • Responds to media inquiries or refers inquiries elsewhere in the organization. Schedules and coordinates media interviews.

Media

  • Owns and maintains the communications calendar, tracking all initiatives, timelines, deliverables, and outcomes, while managing an inventory of shareable assets
  • Owns and evolves the media, analyst, and influencer database, researching new contacts, building targeted lists, and supporting outreach and pitch distribution
  • Develops core communications content, including media pitches, executive quotes and talking points, briefing materials, customer use case summaries, and press releases
  • Monitors and tracks press coverage, capturing relevant articles, identifying new media opportunities, tracking industry trends, and contributing to reporting and asset development
  • Supports press release execution and distribution, managing content development and approvals, coordinating wire distribution and website posting, and tracking performance
  • Owns day-to-day management of NEMS's social media channels (NEMS Connect, LinkedIn and others), including content scheduling, publishing, and community engagement
  • Develops and maintains NEMS social media content calendar, coordinating with communications teams to support key announcements, campaigns, and events
  • Creates and supports social content development; drafts posts, develops copy, and supports assets aligned to NEMS' brand voice
  • Monitors social channels and conversations, tracking brand mentions, industry trends, and engagement opportunities, and responding or escalating as appropriate
  • Tracks and reports on performance metrics including reach, engagement, and follower growth, and surface insights to inform content strategy
  • Stays current on social trends and platform updates; shares recommendations to continuously improve performance and engagement
  • Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required; Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations or related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in PR, communications, or marketing experience in an agency environment
  • Must flexible, quick thinking, organized and able to develop reputation-building content, campaigns and programs
  • Strong understanding of the healthcare landscape and media ecosystem
  • Proven ability to develop and lead communications strategies that drive visibility and credibility for healthcare brands
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style across different formats and audiences (social posts, press commentary, executive messaging).
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive, collaborative, and solutions-oriented mindset
  • Excellent analytical and project management skills
  • Experience managing a team is preferred
  • Experience supporting PR workflows, including media and influencer engagement, and familiarity with industry tools (e.g., Muck Rack, wire services, and media monitoring platforms) preferred.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms (LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Instagram) and social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, or similar) preferred.

LANGUAGE:

  • Fluent reading, writing and speaking in English is required.
  • Fluent reading, writing and speaking in Chinese (Cantonese) is required.
  • Ability to speak other languages are an asset.

  • This is an FLSA exempt position.
