What is the difference between A Localization vs A Translator?

AspectA LocalizationA Translator
CredentialsLanguage proficiency, cultural knowledge, localization toolsLanguage proficiency, translation certifications (e.g., ATA)
Work EnvironmentSoftware companies, gaming, websites, appsPublishing, legal, medical, general documents
Industry UsageUsed in tech, gaming, e-commerce for adapting contentUsed in publishing, legal, medical fields for converting text

While both roles involve language skills, A Localization focuses on adapting content for specific markets, considering cultural nuances and technical integration. A Translator primarily converts text from one language to another without necessarily adapting it for cultural context. Localization is broader, often involving technical and cultural adjustments, whereas translation emphasizes linguistic accuracy.

Work Model: On-site, client-integrated
Employment Type: Full-time
Role Overview
DATAmundi is seeking experienced Localization Program Manager to support a leading global technology client in delivering multilingual Growth Marketing campaigns and digital content at scale.
The Program Manager will provide centralized leadership across Localization PM/QA Project Managers, Live Sports Producers, vendors and client stakeholders. The role is responsible for service delivery governance, workforce coordination, KPI performance, reporting, escalation management and continuous improvement across Marketing Campaign and Live Sports localization workstreams.
This is an on-site, client-integrated role requiring regular collaboration with client stakeholders and delivery teams operating across remote, part-time and on-site working models.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own overall service delivery for the managed localization program, ensuring coordinated execution across Localization PM/QA Project Managers, Live Sports Producers, vendors and client stakeholders.
  • Lead the setup and ongoing coordination of the Live Sports and Marketing Campaign workstreams, ensuring operational readiness and a smooth transition into steady-state delivery.
  • Manage program performance against agreed service levels, quality standards, timelines, KPIs and production metrics, identifying gaps and driving corrective actions where needed.
  • Lead capacity planning and workload coordination across on-site, remote and part-time resources, including backup coverage for absences, peak periods and urgent requests.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for delivery risks, quality issues, resource constraints, workflow blockers and urgent production needs, ensuring timely resolution and transparent communication.
  • Establish and maintain clear communication protocols, meeting cadence, feedback loops and reporting structures across internal teams, client stakeholders, vendors and delivery resources.
  • Support consistent quality and service delivery by reviewing performance trends, recurring issues and corrective actions across both workstreams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, reporting, team coordination and operational efficiency, and support the implementation of agreed improvements.
  • Promote workforce engagement, team alignment and talent management excellence through coaching, feedback, collaboration and clear expectations.
  • Act as a trusted operational partner to the client, maintaining a responsive, structured and solutions-focused approach.

Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience in localization operations, localization project or program management, production management, or managed-service delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional delivery teams or coordinating multiple resources across complex programs.
  • Strong understanding of localization workflows, linguistic and functional QA, vendor coordination, stakeholder management, reporting and service delivery governance.
  • Experience operating in blended delivery models involving on-site, remote, vendor and/or part-time production resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage capacity, priorities, risks, escalations, SLAs, quality standards and performance metrics across complex workflows.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to establish structured communication protocols, provide clear updates and drive alignment across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working within structured client systems and workflows, such as localization platforms, CMS environments, issue-tracking tools, reporting dashboards or production-management systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret KPIs, identify trends, manage dependencies and drive continuous improvement.
  • Experience preparing and presenting operational updates, performance reviews, risk summaries and improvement recommendations to client stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, client-integrated and high-visibility environment with strong ownership, resilience and responsiveness.
  • Experience operating in a macOS-based working environment.
  • On-site availability in Culver City, California is required.

Benefits
  • Your well-being is our priority: 15 paid vacation days plus 10 paid sick days.
  • 12 paid federal holidays.
  • Extended health insurance coverage for you and your family.
  • 401K matching after your first year of employment.
