Organization and Position Overview:

Lilly recently announced a $4.5 billion investment to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a new center for advanced manufacturing and drug development. The first-ever facility of its kind, combining research and manufacturing in a single location, the Medicine Foundry will allow Lilly to further develop innovative solutions to optimize manufacturing processes and increase capacity for clinical trial medicines, while also reducing costs and environmental impact.

In the Project Delivery Phase and Startup Phase of the project (2025 to 2028), roles will be fluid and dynamic as we endeavor to support the project delivery, build a new organization, develop and implement the necessary systems and business processes required to support GMP operations. This will require significant collaboration, creativity and resilience as the Lilly Medicine Foundry goes from design, to start-up, and to steady-state operations.

The Laboratory Informatics Scientist role, a technical-track position with an emphasis on environmental monitoring and MODA platform support, seeks a collaborative, inclusive, and energetic individual who will play a key role in building and supporting the digital ecosystem that powers the Lilly Medicine Foundry laboratories, with a primary focus on deploying and sustaining the MODA environmental monitoring platform. The rolewill help implement, configure, and maintain critical laboratory informatics platforms, including MODA, LIMS, ELN/LES, Empower, and other systems that enable efficient, compliant scientific operations.This position is ideal for someone with experience in environmental monitoring workflows, EM sampling plans, and microbiological data management who thrives at the intersection of science, technology, and quality. You will collaborate with global and local IT teams, laboratory scientists, microbiology teams, and quality partners to ensure data integrity, system reliability, and seamless lab workflows. As the systems mature, your role will evolve into serving as the site MODA subject matter expert, leading continuous improvement initiatives for EM processes, mentoring users, supporting audits, and executing long-term digital strategy for the lab. This is a unique opportunity to grow your informatics career within a state-of-the-art digital laboratory environment and help shape foundational capabilities for the Medicine Foundry.

Responsibilities:

  • Configure, deploy, and support laboratory informatics platforms, with primary ownership of the MODA environmental monitoring system, and cross-trained backup support for LIMS, ELN, LES, and Empower.
  • Configure and maintain EM sampling plans, location hierarchies, alert/action limits, organism panels, and master data across laboratory informatics systems.
  • Participate in system installation, qualification, validation activities, and periodic reviews to maintain a validated state.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and serve as a primary technical point of contact (SME) for lab users.
  • Monitor the performance of laboratory informatics systems, including EM trending, excursion management, and deviation support within MODA, to ensure data integrity, compliance, and efficiency.
  • Drive enhancements to digital workflows, automation opportunities, and enduser experience.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with quality systems and laboratory operations.
  • Maintain compliance with cGMP/GLP and data integrity expectations across laboratory systems.
  • Prepare and author quality system deliverables, including management review summaries, deviations, CAPAs, and system documentation.
  • Support internal and external audit readiness and represent laboratory systems during inspections.
  • Develop training materials and deliver user training for new systems, functionality, or processes.
  • Partner closely with scientists and IT teams to align system functionality with lab needs.
  • Contribute to project planning, timelines, and resource recommendations for lab informatics initiatives.
  • Model an inclusive, collaborative mindset that encourages diverse perspectives and creative problemsolving.

Basic Requirements:

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Information Systems, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or related discipline, with 3+ years experience OR H.S./Associates degree with 5+ years experience supporting or administering laboratory informatics systems (LIMS, ELN, LES, MODA, environmental monitoring systems, QC systems, or similar) in a regulated environment (GxP, GLP, GMP).
  • Handson experience with computerized system validation (CSV) concepts and data integrity requirements.
  • Experience configuring systems, populating master data, or supporting system deployment/upgrade activities.

Additional Preferences:

  • Familiarity with endtoend analytical workflows in a QC or development lab
  • Proficiency with computer systems including Microsoft Office products, LIMS, Laboratory Execution Systems, chromatography systems, electronic laboratory notebook systems including implementation of systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive and accept change.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a sustained tendency for collaboration.
  • Demonstrated success in persuasion, influence, and negotiation.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple activities and manage ambiguity.
  • Must possess strong communication (oral, written), organizational, and leadership skills.

Other Information:

  • Initial location at Lilly Technology Center, Indianapolis.
  • Permanent location at the new Lilly Medicine Foundry in Lebanon, Indiana.
  • Flexibility to work from Indianapolis (or other Lilly sites) may be required throughout 2026 and 2027.
  • Position requires on-site presence, 8-hour days, five days per week, with flexibility to support activities during shutdowns, weekends, etc.
  • 0-10% travel required.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate's education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$65,250 - $169,400

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
