Many organizations seek experienced COBOL developers for maintenance, modernization, and integration projects, often requiring knowledge of mainframe environments and related tools.

Will AI replace COBOL developers?

AI is unlikely to fully replace COBOL developers in the near future because many legacy systems still rely on COBOL, and maintaining or updating these systems requires specialized knowledge. While automation tools can assist with routine tasks, human expertise is essential for complex problem-solving and system integration. COBOL developers with skills in modernization and integration remain valuable in maintaining critical financial and government systems.

What jobs use COBOL?

Jobs that use COBOL typically include mainframe programmers, systems analysts, and application developers working in banking, insurance, government, and financial services industries. These roles involve maintaining and updating legacy systems, often requiring knowledge of mainframe environments and COBOL programming skills.
