Duties
Help
- Operates supporting communication equipment to include administrative and direct line telephones to include crash phones and Language Line, Telecommunications Devices for the Deaf (TDD), conventional and interoperability radio systems.
- Operate computer-based hazardous materials databases to provide field units with accurate information during emergencies.
- Coordinates with internal units and agencies to conduct alarm testing. Works with Fire Prevention to perform fire drills at schools and Childe Development Centers assists in troubleshooting malfunction alarms.
- Answers 911 calls, conducts emergency and non-emergency call processing using Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) consoles or CAD capability through NG911 modernization, if applicable, and or Land Mobile Radios (LMR).
- Processes and prioritizes incoming alarms with or without visual indicators to determine an appropriate response.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires incumbent to, within 16 weeks from the date of employment, demonstrate reasonable proficiency at locally established training guidelines on the use of E911, CAD, Land Mobile Radio (LMR), and station alerting software and equipment.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- Position is subject to shift work. The incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
- Incumbent is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions, Terrorist Force Protection Condition (TFPCON) or installation closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
- Incumbent may be required to wear a uniform.
- The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) based on the program standards at the location assigned.
- Incumbent must complete the Department of Defense Telecommunicator I and II or equivalent based on the program standards at the location assigned.
- Incumbent must complete State National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification based on assigned location.
- Incumbent must complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS 100, 300, 700, 800, and 907 courses.
- Continuous current certification is a condition of employment. The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education (CDE) requirements
- (continued) through in-service training that is offered locally and pass in accordance with predetermined course requirements.
- The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch based on the program standards at the location assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience Statement (HR/SME): One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) operating emergency dispatching and/or communications equipment; (2) questioning callers to determine problems and nature of calls; (3) communicating effectively with police, fire, or medical personnel during emergencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
