Title: Licensed Practical Nurse
Reports To: Building Principal
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Terms of Employment: August- June
Salary Range: $22.34 -$25.66
Summary: To perform student care requiring basic nursing skills, judgment and knowledge as selected by and perform under the supervision of a registered nurse. To perform health services at the building level and process data for mandated state reports. To perform responsibilities as delegated by the School Nurse under the overall direction of the Building Principal. Expected to travel throughout the district.
Qualification(s): The successful candidate will have the following:
  1. Education
  • Minimum of 1 year of college or 41 semester hours from an accredited college or university.
  • Certification from State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulations for Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Current certification through American Heart Association in Basic Life
  • Qualified for the National Licensing Examination( N.C.L.E.X) for Practical Nurses.
  1. Experience
  • 2 years of nursing assistant experience
  • Valid License
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Knowledge of relevant nursing care
  • Maintains current CPR certification
  • Understands legal implications of student/patient care

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in primary student care to medically fragile students under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse/ building administrator.
  • Provides first aid to all students wherever needed at the building level.
  • Provides immediate medical attention to any student in need of service as directed by the school nurse.
  • Under the direction of the school nurse, coordinated medical service and attention, i.e, medication and medical treatments.
  • Records all emergencies and keeps updated anecdotes on medically fragile students.
  • Assist the school nurse in completing the developmental health history for all Special Education students.
  • Assist the school nurse when directed to share medical findings at an MDC staffing.
  • Assist in ordering supplies
  • Provides follow up calls to parents regarding attendance, medications, etc, directed by a school nurse.
  • Assist in vision and hearing testing on all students in grades mandated by the Illinois Department of Public Health as directed by a school nurse.
  • Complete vision and hearing worksheets and report written results of screening which are provided to the PPS Team and parents' charts are maintained on all vision and hearing screens as directed by the school nurse.
  • Assist with all state mandated screenings
  • Follows thorough on returning all forms to designated files, as directed by the school nurse.
  • Compiles a list of health problems by checking back of emergency cards, bottom of transfer sheets and physical exam forms and transfer information to appropriate form as directed by the school nurse.
  • Process data at the building for State mandated reports immunization, dental, vision and hearing.
  • Assist with collection and maintenance of student health data.
  • Encourage communicably disease prevention practice i.e. hand washing, good hygiene, covering cough, etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health related issues.
  • Maintains accuracy documentation of phone and other communication methods.
  • Travel in between school buildings.
