Job Announcement $5,000 Sign-On Bonus* Are you a collaborative engineer passionate about improving our watersheds, stormwater quality, and reducing flooding through the implementation of innovative and sustainable stormwater capital improvement projects. We are seeking an engineer to perform engineering and construction administration work for the Stormwater Construction Branch within the Utilities Design and Construction Division. DPWES is a diverse, nationally accredited and award-winning public works agency with approximately 1,000 employees providing solid waste, capital facility development, wastewater, stormwater, urban forestry, and land acquisition management services for the most populous county in Virginia.

Please review our awesome benefits: Benefits Retirement The Utilities Design and Construction Division manages the bid advertisement, contract award processes, and overseeing all aspects of construction contract management for transportation projects and stormwater projects including inspection, testing, code compliance, warranty, and project closeout. Note: This position is in the Stormwater Construction Branch, located in the Fairfax County Government Center at 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, Virginia. This position may be eligible for telework.

Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") Graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus, four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering or architectural field. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid driver's license Valid Virginia Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect License An individual who possesses a valid professional engineer or architect license in another state will be granted a temporary exemption to this requirement pending the Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers & Landscape Architects decision regarding that individual's application for reciprocity.

Please note that if the selected candidate is licensed in another state, they will be required to obtain a Virginia PE or RA license through the endorsement process within twelve (12) months of the award letter date as a condition of employment. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: At least four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in construction management for stormwater, major utility, or public works projects.

At least four (4) years of experience preparing, procuring, administering, and managing construction and engineering contracts for site or utility construction. Experience with project financial and budgetary planning, tracking, and reporting at the project level. Experience reviewing, interpreting, and applying construction plans, specifications, and contract documents in the administration of construction projects.

Experience in the close-out of construction contracts, to include closing permits, and resolution of punch list items. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to hear safety alarms in a construction site. Ability to lift 30 pounds.

Ability to physically negotiate rough terrain and typical construction sites. Ability to produce handwritten and typed documents. Ability to walk steep grades and off-street terrain.

Approximately 20% of the time spent on field investigations, measurements, meetings, and reviews of Stormwater construction projects including Natural Channel Design, Stormwater basin retrofits, dredging projects, dam construction or repairs, and other stormwater projects. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations. SELECTION PROCEDURE: Panel interview and may include exercise.

BONUS ELIGIBILITY: Positions within this classification that are general merit may be eligible for a one-time hiring incentive bonus for new county employees only. This bonus program requires a signed payback agreement between the department and employee.
