Job description

Halvik Corp delivers a wide range of services to 13 executive agencies and 15 independent agencies. Halvik is a highly successful WOB business with more than 50 prime contracts and 500+ professionals delivering Digital Services, Advanced Analytics, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Cyber Security and Cutting-Edge Technology across the US Government. Be a part of something special!
Position Overview
Halvik is seeking a Senior BI Developer to support a high-visibility federal data modernization program at the U.S. Department of Transportation. This program is migrating thousands of reports from Oracle Data Warehouse / OBIEE into Tableau dashboards connected to a Databricks platform.
The Senior BI Developer will build complex Tableau workbooks, dashboards, and visualizations against published data sources designed by the data architects. A significant part of the conversion workflow leverages AI-generated report scaffolds as starting points - the Senior BI Developer will review, refine, and finalize these into production-quality reports. For reports that require creative visualization design or complex Tableau techniques, the Senior BI Developer will perform direct development and serve as the Tableau quality authority.
The ideal candidate is a strong Tableau practitioner with a sharp eye for data visualization - someone who understands not just how to build reports, but how to display information effectively for different audiences and data patterns. Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate prior work through a portfolio or live reproduction of sample dashboards.
Core Responsibilities
  • Develop complex Tableau workbooks, dashboards, and interactive features against published Tableau data sources built on Databricks gold-layer tables.
  • Review and refine AI-generated Tableau report scaffolds to produce production-quality output that faithfully reproduces legacy business logic.
  • Propose and implement the most effective visualization type based on the data pattern, audience, and use case. Bring creative visualization design to the migration, not just functional reproduction of legacy layouts.
  • Apply Tableau performance best practices and own Tableau-side performance tuning.
  • Validate report fidelity by comparing Tableau output to legacy OBIEE reports, ensuring accuracy in calculations, aggregations, filters, and business logic.
  • Review and approve junior BI Developer output before reports advance to QA and UAT. Enforce visualization standards, naming conventions, and quality gates.
  • Publish workbooks to Tableau Server/Cloud and verify successful rendering, data refresh, and access controls. Manage extract schedules and connection configurations for production reports.
  • Collaborate with the Data Architect on TDS design feedback, surfacing cases where data source structures create development friction, performance issues, or visualization limitations from the report-builder perspective.
  • Mentor junior BI Developers on Tableau best practices.
  • Contribute to migration playbooks, visualization standards documentation, and knowledge transfer materials. Participate in stakeholder demos, sprint reviews, and Agile ceremonies.

Minimum Requirements
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of hands-on Tableau development experience, including complex dashboards, published data sources, calculated fields, parameters, table calculations, performance tuning, and Tableau Server publishing.
  • Solid SQL skills.
  • Understanding of data warehouse concepts - dimensional models, fact and dimension tables, star schemas, data marts
  • Effective working in Agile delivery environments with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Expertise
  • Experience with BI platform migrations (OBIEE-to-Tableau, Cognos-to-Tableau, or similar legacy-to-modern conversions).
  • Experience using AI/LLM tools in a professional development workflow - code generation, data analysis, documentation, or report scaffolding.
  • Familiarity with Tableau APIs.
  • Python fundamentals for scripting, automation, or data manipulation.
  • Experience working in a federal government IT environment.
  • Familiarity with OBIEE RPD structure, subject areas, presentation layers, or BI Catalog - useful but not required.

Halvik offers a competitive full benefits package including:
Company-supported medical, dental, vision, life, STD, and LTD insurance
Benefits include 11 federal holidays and PTO
Eligible employees may receive performance-based incentives in recognition of individual and/or team achievements.
401(k) with company matching
Flexible Spending Accounts for commuter, medical, and dependent care expenses
Tuition Assistance
Charitable Contribution matching
Halvik Corp is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or veteran status.
Halvik's pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
