Job description

Job Summary
Responsible for preparing material for production runs and moving the product to the appropriate location on the plant floor and maintaining a clean work environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Shift Start/Overlap:
  • Punch in 15 minutes before the beginning shift to get the complete run-down on the floor and inspect for material mixtures and house cleaning by previous material handlers (molding floor, staging area and tumbler area.)
  • Read the lead operator's log on instructions pertaining to materials, packaging, and other items needed for production.
  • Ensure that proper run-down and complete information is passed onto the on-coming shift material handler.
  • Read material handler's board to see how the other two previous shifts ran.

Primary Duties:
  • Responsible for "setting up new jobs" that are to run in the presses.
  • Responsible for taking all raw materials, colorants, packaging, inserts and other components needed to and from the molding presses for production as needed. Discrepancies are to be communicated in writing to your supervisor.
  • As appropriate, mix materials per the amounts noted on the shop order.
  • Empty all grinders, supply properly labeled barrel when required and see that the reground material is being used up with the production run, with the proper virgin/reground mix ratio required.
  • Fill all hoppers to maintain production.
  • Fill all dryers with material as it is being used.
  • Check and monitor dryer temps when filling with material to see that temperatures are set properly and heating properly (make sure they are turned on). Make sure dryer lids are secured tightly.
  • Responsible for moving loaded pallets of finished goods to designated staging area and position empty pallet at press.
  • Remove material to material return area when production run is finished. Check labels to ensure they have been filled out properly and fill out return ticket. Zip tie barrel bags or Gaylord liners to prevent contamination.
  • Remove all parts and supplies from the machine from previous run. Store in appropriate locations.

Labeling and Paperwork:
  • Responsible for proper information written on all material and part containers when running the scheduled production or sample run. When putting an empty barrel by a machine, be sure barrel is labeled at that time and covered to reduce contamination.
  • All segments on label sticker must be filled out with ESP Item No., Lot No., Description, Press No., S. O. No., Sign Off.
  • Responsible to fill out Material Verification Tickets, green copy with material, white copy in filing cabinet.
  • Responsible for filling out the Grinder Sheet with type of material and colorant when grinder is being used. Must have proper identification tagged and parts attached to grinder.
  • Responsible for giving Q. C. information on material being used each time materials are switched or new lots utilized. (Material Change Notification Form)

Document notes. When using a colorant with a material, write down the combination used (material on the Material Handler's Log with lot number, color number, I.D., etc., to eliminate future guessing on color mixtures).
Cleaning and Housekeeping:
  • When hopper dryer is cleaned out, a vacuum should be utilized to reduce dust and contamination. The filter should be cleaned.
  • Sweep floor and take out refuse - sweep pellets when spilled on and around injection molding machine at all times.
  • Responsible for keeping the work area clean, orderly and ensuring all items are properly stocked.
  • Check behind gates and back of machines and vacuum machine off. Also, sweep the entire floor around the machine.

Other:
Help with breaks as requested by Supervisor and/or Plant Manager. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be forklift and pallet truck certified.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment; experience working as a material handler a plus
  • Working knowledge of MRP systems
  • Strong computer skills
  • Above average math skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers and delivery personnel
  • Knowledge of procedures for legally and safely handling goods
  • Able to work as part of a team

Physical Abilities:
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching
  • Able to work in an environment where the temperature may fluctuate
  • Able to safely get on and off forklift and navigate pallet trucks around facility
