3Rd Shift Interpretive Park Ranger Jobs (NOW HIRING)

Description Under limited supervision, a Senior Park Ranger is responsible for overseeing field activities for Park Rangers during their assigned shift. The incumbent should be comfortable leading briefings, conducting training, writing reports, and reviewing the work of Park Rangers on shift. A successful candidate should be able to multitask, have time management skills, and have strong verbal and written communication skills.

A Senior Park Ranger will maintain cooperative working relationships with internal departments as well as outside agencies. This position will be required to work some nights, weekends, and holidays and must be able to work up to 32 hours a week. This position operates seven (7) days per week, including weekends and holidays.

Employees are assigned to a primary shift upon hire. While staff are generally scheduled within their assigned shift, work schedules, days, and hours may be adjusted based on operational needs, including City events, special assignments, staffing needs, training, and other program requirements. Employees may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

- 10:00 p.m. 3rd Shift: 4:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m

Overnight Shift: 10:30 p.m. - 4:30 a.m. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Senior Park Ranger is the lead level classification in the Park Ranger/ Senior Park Ranger series

Incumbents at this level coordinate the field activities of multiple Park Rangers and perform the most complex and sensitive duties assigned. Essential Functions The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

Conduct daily briefings with the Park Rangers and Park Ranger trainees; review and evaluate work, while in progress and upon completion; review Park Ranger patrol logs and reports; respond to Park Ranger calls for assistance as needed. Oversee assignment of patrol areas and field operations; patrol and monitor proper public use of Anaheim's over 65 parks and facilities by patrolling in a city vehicle, bicycle, or on foot. Provide technical and functional supervision and training to assigned Park Ranger staff; review and control quality of work; give feedback on performance and provide input on employee evaluations.

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the operations, activities, and programs and recommend improvements or modifications. Perform administrative tasks such as attending and leading meetings, trainings, preparing reports, monitoring expenditures, and maintaining records; train Park Rangers in work methods, use of tools and equipment, and relevant safety practices. Update Senior Patrol Logs; update daily patrol logs; prepare maintenance observation reports, incident, general accident, vehicle accident, and employee injury reports, or other required reports as necessary.

Ensure facilities are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition; troubleshoot and resolve issues with facility scheduling and park maintenance staff. Provide courteous, high-quality service to members of the public by personally responding to requests for service or provide referral to other departments. Regularly communicate with law enforcement, fire officials, and Code Enforcement; use radio for Police/Fire and Code Enforcement as needed; respond to low-level calls for service in parks and recreational facilities.

Assign and assist in opening and securing specialized park facilities, skate parks, restrooms, gates, and trails. Administer programs; prepare patrol statistics, monitor equipment, and inventory supplies. Identify, remove, transport, or dispose of hazardous materials and hypodermic needles and/or other drug paraphernalia.

Provide basic outreach and offer resource materials to the homeless in the parks. Assist with City and Department-sponsored community events, including supervision, event patrol, parking control, and set-up/break-down work. Assist in Citywide emergencies such as fire and hazardous weather conditions.

Assist in emergencies involving injury or illness, by notifying proper authorities; conduct basic first aid; administer AED and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when required. Tag and report abandoned property and report graffiti. Act as Park Ranger dispatch operator as assigned.

Follow safe working practices and make appropriate use of related safety equipment as required. Perform related duties as required. Qualifications Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a City of Anaheim Park Ranger.

An equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. Ability to: Lead and instruct others; give directions, plan, schedule, assign, and oversee activities of Park Ranger personnel. Conduct patrol briefings and direct field operations.

Interpret and apply relevant regulations, policies, ordinances, and procedures. Maintain attendance and observe scheduled work hours. Safely follow directions; take appropriate courses of action in emergencies; exercise tact, self-restraint, and good judgment in stressful encounters and situations.

Independently organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments. Anticipate and solve problems; write log entries, reports, messages; complete forms and records; maintain records and files on work performed. Memorize and use transmitted radio codes; operate mechanical and electronic equipment, tablets, and related office equipment; operate a motor vehicle; perform minor maintenance; set up/break down equipment, barricades, traffic cones, or similar objects.

Maintain AED, First Aid, and CPR certification. Provide information and resources to patrons. Understand and interpret written and oral instructions.

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and establish cooperative working relationships with City staff and public. Knowledge of: General principles and practices of park patrol and security; City of Anaheim and Community Services policies and procedures, regulations, codes and ordinances as they relate to park usage. Basic principles and practices of lead supervision and employee training; safe work practices; and standard radio codes.

License/Certification Required: Possession of a valid California Driver's License and Defensive Driver Training by date of appointment. Possession of current AED, CPR, and First-Aid certification by date of appointment. Note: Possession of a current (less than two years) tuberculosis clearance slip by date of appointment.

Fingerprinting at the time of hire is a state-mandated requirement for all employees having direct contact with minors. Supplemental Information This is a part-time position usually averaging 20-32 hours per week. A minimum number of hours is not guaranteed.
