Horizons Youth Services at Milwaukee Job Corps Center provides innovative, quality educational and job training programs to enable young people to succeed in today’s competitive job market and keep pace with the ever-changing dynamics of our worldwide economy.

We are seeking a 3rd shift Youth Worker/Dorm Monitor (Residential Advisor) for our residential trade and education center. Weekends are required

Job Summary: Responsible for a paraprofessional level of student support and performs duties necessary for an orderly operation of the dormitory program. Responsible for the supervision of students to ensure a safe and secure environment.


Duties Include:

  • Ensures orderly, clean, living conditions by scheduling and supervising, and participating in dorm clean up and submitting repair requests.
  • Identifies and assists students in handling special problems, trains student leaders, and assists leaders in conducting dormitory meetings.
  • Maintains individual records for each student that contain, at a minimum, basic identifying information, including emergency contacts, and written parental consent (minors) for weekend passes to approved destinations. Such records shall be readily accessible to other dormitory staff.
  • Assists students in development long- and short-term personal and independent living goals and participates in the timely evaluation of student progress.
  • Maintains communication with students’ counselors, instructors, and appropriate staff, while ensuring case notes and other entries in CIS are accurate and current.
  • Establishes a close working relationship with students, serving as a mentor while monitoring behaviors, dealing justly and impartially with each student, regardless of individual achievement or background, and offering continual encouragement regardless of barriers.
  • Follows all non-health standing orders/symptomatic guidelines.
  • Transports students to various activities and events as needed.
  • Maintains logbooks as authorized, showing activity during shift, while ensuring an environment where students and staff feel safe and secure.
  • Secures students personal property/items when a student is absent for 24 hours, all items are to be placed in property and logged.
  • Conducts periodic checks and maintains order and discipline in his/her assigned dorm.
  • Maintains good housekeeping in all areas and complies with safety practices.
  • Participates in regular staff meetings and all trainings.
  • Models, mentors, and monitors appropriate career success skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the individual’s scope and capabilities.

Experience: One year of experience working with youth and young adults required.

Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's degree preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid State Drivers’ License.
