POSITION OVERVIEW: Civil Engineer

  • Site Assessment: Provide insight and feedback to our development teams for topography, soil, environmental, traffic, and utility factors to assess project feasibility. Suggest options for preliminary building layouts, grading plans, and utility plans. Review surveys and title documents to identify property constraints (easements, rights-of-way, floodplain, setbacks, etc.) and mitigate project risks.
  • Infrastructure Design: Review plans created by 3rd party engineers for roads, sidewalks, water lines, sewer systems, and storm drainage. Assess options to address these issues in timely and cost-effective manner. Provide suggestions for value engineering when appropriate.
  • Grading & Layout: Review plans created by 3rd party engineers to address the slope of the land and positioning building pads for proper drainage and buildability. Assess the need for, and the proposed solutions for, retaining walls where appropriate and in conjunction with a structural engineer.
  • Permitting: Work with 3rd party engineers to prepare, submit, and/or expedite plans to local authorities for approval.
  • Construction Support: Conduct site visits if/when appropriate to ensure plans are followed and to collaborate on solutions to issues that arise during the construction process. Collaborate with external engineering consultants to ensure accuracy of plans, alignment with project goals, and timely submittals.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Civil Engineering
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to learn and utilize TestFit
  • In-depth knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and industry standards related to multifamily design.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance design aesthetics with technical functionality and constructability.
  • Understanding of sustainable design principles and commitment to creating environmentally responsible projects.
  • Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient in effective communication and teamwork.
  • Maintains a positive outlook and embraces a collaborative team approach.
  • Proven leadership skills that cultivate collaboration among the internal and external team members
  • Demonstrated record of successful project management in complex situations
  • Must be willing to occasional travel for construction project inspections and related items
  • Experience with contract negotiations preferred
  • Experience with LIHTC affordable housing programs strongly preferred
