Job description

Job Title: Substitute Custodian (non-guaranteed hours)
Reports To: Facility Manager
Supervisory: No
Non-exempt
Pay Type:
Hourly
Compensation:
  • Pay range: $17.00/hr.
  • Benefits: For employees contracted for 30 hours per week or more, Thomas MacLaren School pays for 100% of the employee's base insurance premiums (Health, Dental, Vision, Long-term and Short-term disability, Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance, and Life insurance) for the base level coverages. No benefits are provided to employees contracted for less than 30 hours per week.

General Purpose: Maintain the proper upkeep and cleanliness of the buildings and grounds; maintain the utility infrastructure of the school campus when called to substitute for a permanent position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform daily custodial operations including cleaning of classrooms, offices, restrooms, laboratories, stairways, corridors, closets, gymnasium, locker rooms, and lobbies
  • Follow Universal Standard Precautions and safety protocol when appropriate
  • Maintain the upkeep of the facility and furniture to include repairs, painting, and cleaning, including the management of waste disposal
  • Assist the facility manager in the maintenance of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems of the facility
  • Perform routine and special project work on the facility and grounds (e.g., building drama set for school play)
  • Assist with snow removal and grounds maintenance
  • Attend all training as assigned by Facility Manager
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications:
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Self-motivated with the ability to perform duties with minimal oversight

  • Enthusiasm for working in a school environment, serving its students and staff

Education: High School diploma or GED
Experience: At least 1 year of experience in a custodial or groundskeeping role preferred
