Job description

Position Summary: Unit Secretary 24 Hour Evenings 3 pm to 11:30 pm
As the Unit Secretary, you will provide secretarial and clerical support to the nursing unit to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the nursing unit.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
โ€ข Answers telephone on the unit in a respectful and professional manner; relays messages to appropriate parties in a timely manner.
โ€ข Schedules appointments for procedures and tests, obtains results, and files results in patient charts.
โ€ข Arranges for consults with physicians.
โ€ข Prepares patient charts for admission and disassembles charts for discharge, records information according to Health Information System standards.
โ€ข Assists in including arranging patient transport as needed, assigns room for cleaning.
โ€ข Transports specimens to the lab.
โ€ข Obtains supplies from internal sources such as Materials Management department.
โ€ข Maintains a clean and secure environment to ensure efficient and safe operation of the nursing unit.
โ€ข Functions as an active member of the health care team on the unit.
EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE
Required:
โ€ข High school diploma or equivalent
โ€ข Previous experience performing clerical and phone duties in an office or health-care related environment
โ€ข Must have outstanding customer service attitude and demonstrate a commitment to professional behavior
Preferred:
โ€ข Knowledge of health care terminology
