Job Summary:

As the EHS Director, you will ultimately be responsible for leading environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs, ensuring compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements, and driving a proactive safety culture across OVE operations. You will lead company-wide safety initiatives, oversee compliance programs, and deliver strategic health, safety, and environmental leadership that protects employees, subcontractors, the public, and the environment. As the EHS Director, your customers are OVE employees, subcontractors, executive leadership, clients, and regulatory agencies, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and continuous safety improvement.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):

  • Lead the administration and management of comprehensive environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs that promote safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement
  • Enforce corporate and project-specific safety programs while ensuring compliance with OSHA, Cal-OSHA, DOT, ANSI, client, federal, state, and local regulations
  • Conduct safety audits across multiple operations, identify risks, implement corrective actions, and develop risk management solutions
  • Partner with General Managers, Contracts Management, Finance, Engineering, Construction, and People Services (HR) to develop and implement safety strategies, reporting metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, workers' compensation coordination, and corrective action programs to prevent future incidents
  • Promote Congruex's safety culture through leadership, coaching, mentoring, employee engagement, and professional development while representing the organization with customers, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies
  • Oversee customer safety compliance requirements and integrate company safety programs with client-specific HSE requirements
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers to support claims management, risk control programs, and site safety evaluations
  • Participate in professional safety organizations and remain current with industry regulations, trends, and best practices
  • Travel domestically up to 50% as required
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs

Required Qualifications:

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications for the position

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive construction safety leadership experience
  • Experience developing, implementing, and managing environmental, health, and safety programs
  • Experience working with OSHA, Cal-OSHA, DOT, ANSI, and other applicable regulatory requirements
  • Experience managing incident investigations, regulatory compliance, and organizational risk management

  • Strong leadership, analytical, problem-solving, and continuous improvement skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence employees, supervisors, executives, clients, and external stakeholders
  • Ability to lead teams while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to analyze business needs and implement strategic safety initiatives
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to build collaborative working relationships across all organizational levels
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous professional development
  • Ability to travel overnight as business needs require

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related field
  • Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) certification such as CSP, ASP, CHST, or equivalent
  • OSHA 30 and/or OSHA 500 Certification
  • Experience leading safety programs across multiple operating locations

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel domestically up to 50%
  • Ability to visit active construction sites, warehouses, and office environments
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, and conduct field safety inspections
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to work in both indoor office settings and outdoor construction environments under varying weather conditions
