Job description

Lead one of the Southeast's most complex and high-acuity hospital medicine programs at a 350-bed Level II Trauma Center and nationally recognized burn center. This facility medical director opportunity offers the rare chance to oversee a large, established hospital medicine team, partner directly with hospital leadership, and drive operations within a clinically sophisticated tertiary care environment backed by the resources and infrastructure of TeamHealth and HCA Healthcare.
TeamHealth is seeking an experienced hospitalist leader to serve as facility medical director at Doctors Hospital of Augusta in Augusta, Georgia. Reporting directly to the regional medical director and vice president of operations, this leadership role is ideal for a physician who enjoys operational leadership, mentoring clinicians, improving performance metrics, and helping shape the strategic direction of a mature hospital medicine program.
The facility medical director will oversee a team of 25+ full-time hospital medicine physicians and 8+ advanced practice clinicians. The program is well-established, stable and fully staffed, offering strong operational support and an excellent foundation for continued growth and clinician engagement. The facility medical director is supported by a highly engaged associate facility medical director and works in close partnership with the physician leader overseeing the burn center hospital medicine program, creating a collaborative and well-supported leadership structure.
This position includes a clinical commitment of approximately 60 hours per month, with the remainder of time dedicated to administrative leadership responsibilities. This allows physician leaders to focus on quality initiatives, clinician development, operational strategy and hospital partnerships while maintaining a meaningful clinical presence.
Job Duties
  • Lead the clinical and operational performance of the hospital medicine program
  • Oversee clinician scheduling, staffing and physician engagement across a large hospital medicine team
  • Partner with hospital administration and TeamHealth leadership on quality, throughput and strategic initiatives
  • Drive patient safety, quality improvement and operational efficiency efforts
  • Mentor hospitalists and advanced practice clinicians
  • Participate in hospital committees and interdisciplinary leadership meetings
  • Maintain a clinical presence within the program

Qualifications
  • Board certified in internal medicine or family medicine
  • Previous hospital medicine leadership experience required
  • Strong leadership, operational and communication skills
  • Experience managing hospital medicine workflows, quality metrics and clinician performance
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with hospital leadership and multidisciplinary teams
