We are looking for a skilled Maintenance Systems Technician Level I, II, III to join our team in Columbus, OH.
Reporting to the Maintenance Systems Supervisor, the Maintenance Systems Technician will maintain, adjust and repair plant machinery to industry standards while ensuring compliance with all applicable safety, food safety and regulatory requirements.
Depending on skills and experience, and the current needs of the business, this role may be offered as a Maintenance Systems Technician I, II or III. The pay range posted is entry to maximum across these three levels.
Essential Duties
- Repair down equipment in a fast-paced, time-critical environment.
- Execute tasks and instructions as described on assigned work orders.
- Perform basic or advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving on damaged, degraded or downed equipment.
- Perform basic or advanced industrial electrical troubleshooting, repair and multimeter use.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of repair time, actions and parts utilizing the maintenance management software.
- Recommend equipment modifications to improve the process, productivity, reliability and finished good quality.
- Train and coach associates on equipment details and technical duties.
- Recognize production as the customer and strive to meet the requirements of all plant functions who request Maintenance support.
- Utilize mechanical and electrical prints, equipment manuals and procedures to effectively maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Maintenance Systems Technician I: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2 or more years in an industrial maintenance/auto mechanic/industrial equipment service role, or 4 years equipment operational experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting, or 2-year trade school certificate. Or equivalent combination of experience and qualifications.
Maintenance Systems Technician II: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED), a 2-year trade school certificate and 2 or more years of operational or maintenance/automotive mechanic/industrial equipment service-related experience. Or equivalent combination of experience and qualifications.
Maintenance Systems Technician III: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED), a 2-year trade school certificate and 5 or more years of experience in an industrial maintenance/automotive mechanic/industrial equipment service role. Or equivalent combination of experience and qualifications. A professional Maintenance Technician certification is preferred.
MST I REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Hand tool knowledge and experience
- Power tool knowledge and experience
- Understanding of and ability to use basic measurement tools
- Computer proficiency with basic data entry skills. Ability to learn and effectively use maintenance management software.
MSTI II & III REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- For all levels, computer proficiency with basic data entry skills. Ability to learn and effectively use maintenance management software.
Technician II must have basic understanding of all, and demonstrated expertise in at least 4 of the following skill areas. Technician III must have basic understanding of all, and demonstrated expertise in at least 8 of the following skill areas:
- Welding and Fabrication. Includes: MIG and TIG welding, Oxy-Acetylene torch, metal cutting using plasma cutter, cut-off wheels or cutting saws.
- Industrial electrician skills. Includes: Troubleshooting safety and control circuits, understanding 3-phase wiring and rotation, running and terminating power and control wiring, running conduit and pulling wire.
- Industrial controls. Includes: Programming variable frequency drives, troubleshooting PLCs, programming or calibrating sensors. Interpreting control wiring diagrams and working/troubleshooting within control panels.
- Pneumatics. Includes: troubleshooting pneumatic control systems, solenoids, valves. Reading pneumatic schematics. Experience in rebuilding cylinders, replacing seals and gaskets.
- Hydraulics. Includes: troubleshooting hydraulic control systems, pumps, valves. Reading hydraulic schematics. Understanding importance of hydraulic oil condition and cleanliness.
- Print reading and drawing. Includes interpretation of mechanical assembly drawings, electrical schematics, process and instrumentation drawings. Ability to create fabrication or layout drawings, to draw electrical circuits. Ability to navigate auto-cad drawings.
- Machining. Has training and skills that allow safe operation of machine tools including: manual lathe, vertical mill, brake press and drill press.
- Precision maintenance and measurement. Includes: performing dial indicator shaft alignment, laser alignment, pulley alignment methods, use of feeler gauges and precision shims, micrometers, bore gauges, levels and chain wear gauge tools.
- Predictive maintenance tools and methods. Includes use of IR camera, Ultrasonic detector for air born and structure born ultrasound, vibration analysis fundamentals, understanding of motion amplification, motor circuit analysis, use of strobe light.
- Lubrication technician skills. Includes: proof of completing a lubrication training class, knowledge of ISO oil cleanliness standards, experience using oil filtration, performing oil sampling. Understanding of grease types, properties and compatibility.
- OSHA 30 certification. Certificate is current, up to date.
Additional Essential Duties, Maintenance Technician III:
- Complete Root Cause Analysis following unplanned failures and practice continuous improvement concepts in all aspects of equipment and facility maintenance.
- Provide input and constructive feedback on job plans and preventive maintenance procedures.
- Train and coach associates on equipment details and technical duties, and maintenance skills.
