Job description

Position Title: OH Terminal Manager

Position Reports to: Regional Director of Operations

Position Summary: The OH Terminal Manager leads all day-to-day operations at the Columbus terminal, with primary responsibility for home-daily driver operations. This role directly oversees 2 Driver Managers, 1 Load Planner, and a fleet of approximately 60 home-daily drivers. The Terminal Manager is accountable for safety performance, driver retention, on-time service execution, and terminal efficiency — and serves as the senior on-site leader and primary point of contact for drivers, customers, and support functions.

Operations Management:
  • Manages all terminal functions including driver dispatch, load planning, yard management, and equipment utilization for home-daily operations.
  • Directly supervises driver management to ensure drivers are fully utilized and consistently meeting customer on-time pickup and delivery requirements.
  • Oversees load planning to align freight assignments with driver availability, customer commitments, and operational efficiency targets.

Driver Leadership & Retention:

  • Serves as the primary on-site company representative to professional drivers — communicating expectations, building relationships, and actively working to retain safe, high-performing drivers.
  • Champions driver safety, productivity, and professional development; acts as an advocate for drivers while holding them accountable to West Side Transport standards.
  • Addresses driver concerns promptly and professionally; escalates issues to the Regional Director of Operations as appropriate.

People Management:

  • Oversees hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluation, and disciplinary action for all terminal personnel including Driver Managers, Load Planner, and professional drivers.
  • Monitors workflow processes among staff and serves as the primary resource and escalation point for terminal team members.
  • Fosters a team environment consistent with West Side Transport’s core values: Safety First, Respect & Appreciation, Teamwork, Accountability, and Continuous Improvement.

Availability & Oversight:

  • Maintains dotted-line responsibility for the on-site maintenance facility, acting as the operational liaison between the terminal and the shop.
  • Serves as an operational point of contact for transport customers; provides information and support as needed to maintain and strengthen customer relationships.
  • Maintains a consistent on-site presence during primary operating hours sufficient to ensure the terminal is performing to standard.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of management experience, with at least 3 years in operations management.
  • Transportation or logistics industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of direct reports.
  • Strong communication skills — written and verbal — with the ability to interface effectively with professional drivers, peers, customers, and senior leadership.
  • Proven problem-solving ability in a fast-paced, high-accountability operational environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing home-daily or regional driver operations.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations, CSA compliance, and driver qualification requirements.
  • Experience with Microsoft ICC/AS400 or similar enterprise TMS platforms.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on occasion.
  • Sitting and entering data for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work in a terminal/ yard environment, including outdoor exposure.

The above statements describe the general nature and principal functions of this position. Duties and responsibilities may be adjusted based on business needs as determined by management.
