Job description

Job Summary
Under general supervision, a Public Safety Sergeant oversees and manages public safety personnel and operations, ensuring a safe environment for individuals and property within Easton Town Center. They are responsible for supervising, mentoring, training, and evaluating public safety officers, dispatchers, or other related staff, as well as developing and implementing safety policies and procedures. They also respond to emergencies, conduct investigations, and maintain records.
Supervision and Management:
  • Supervising, scheduling, approving time off and evaluating the performance of public safety personnel.
  • Making hiring, disciplinary, and dismissal recommendations.
  • Training new employees and ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Overseeing the work of dispatchers, including receiving and transmitting emergency calls and dispatching appropriate personnel.
  • Monitoring the activity and performance of public safety officers to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Coordinating and directing workflow, prioritizing tasks, and tracking work progress.
  • Conducts regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Maintain adequate supervisory coverage on all shifts which may include mandated overtime or shift changes.
Operational Duties:
  • Directs public safety operations for assigned shift, to include daily patrol assignments, ancillary assignments, and special events that may be scheduled for the shift.
  • Conduct roll call at the beginning of each shift to ensure pertinent information is relayed to the oncoming shift.
  • Reviews written reports and daily logs completed by public safety personnel to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Ensures that public safety officers are performing the tasks required during assigned shift; vehicle patrol, foot patrol, parking compliance, responding to calls for service, conducting tour compliance (pipe) tours, and all other activities assigned for the shift.
  • Ensure the dispatchers are performing the tasks required during assigned shift; answering phones promptly, dispatching calls for service promptly, submitting support tickets for CCTV footage when requested, managing lost amp; found, and all other activities assigned for the shift.
  • Evaluates operations for effectiveness, identifies trends, anticipates changing needs for staffing and makes recommendations to leadership.
  • Ensures that Public Safety goals and objectives are met for maximum effective service delivery and customer service.
  • Escalate priority incidents or issues to Public Safety/Center leadership in a timely manner.
  • Address any complaints or concerns from guests, employees or others, take appropriate action or escalate to leadership if necessary.
  • Acts as a liaison with local law enforcement, fire departments, and other entities as directed.
  • Ensuring the proper functioning and maintenance of equipment and systems used by Public Safety. Engage the appropriate resources if support is needed. (IT, Maintenance, etc.)
  • Respond to all incidents involving injury incidents occurring on assigned shift.
  • Ensure the Public Safety team consistently enforces the Easton Town Center Code of Conduct.
  • Coordinate with the CPD special duty detail to ensure they are deployed in the most effective way possible.
  • May perform the full range of duties of a Public Safety Officer.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Administrative Duties:
  • Preparing accurate and timely reports, including incident reports, activity reports, and personnel actions as needed.
  • Coordinate training schedules for Public Safety (CPR, Defensive Tactics, Handcuffing, etc.).
  • Maintain compliance records for staff training amp; development.
  • Assist with staff development as it relates to Standard Operating Procedure understanding and compliance.
  • Manage the CPD special duty sign in/out process for the assigned shift and ensure completeness and accuracy of logs.
  • Other related administrative duties as assigned.
Skills amp; Abilities to:
  • Plan, schedule, assign, supervise, review, and evaluate the work of Public Safety staff on an assigned shift.
  • Provide leadership and motivate staff.
  • Train staff in work procedures.
  • Manage multiple tasks, often with competing priorities.
  • Identify and respond to center/tenant/guest issues, concerns, and needs.
  • Make sound, often independent, decisions in emergency situations within SOP guidelines.
  • Understand the scope of authority in making independent decisions and when to escalate issues.
Education and Qualifications:
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • College course work or degree – preferred.
  • 2-3 years-experience in a public safety/security leadership role – preferred.
  • Some experience working in a retail environment – preferred.
  • Schedule flexibility to work outside regular business hours, including weekday nights and weekends.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
Essential Functions:
  • Stand or walk constantly on various surfaces.
  • Climb stairs, ramps, and ladders occasionally.
