Job description

Position Summary: Supports the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical construction projects. This role serves as a liaison between the project management team, field operations, subcontractors, vendors, and clients to ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget, and to required specifications. The Project Engineer assists with project documentation, procurement, scheduling, quality control, and cost management. Develops relationships both inside and outside of the company that promote TP Mechanical and the Project Management Department in a professional manner.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Assists project manager to ensure proper timelines and all requirements are met for all projects. Helps with billing, change orders, collections, etc. to ensure timely completion. Keeps the management staff up-to-date on all project issues.
2. Reviews job cost, job status, manpower and change order reports to provide analysis on a monthly basis with project manager/project management team. Attends regular/monthly job cost reviews to accurately reflect project profitability and status of all project issues.
3. Communicates and troubleshoots with project manager, project superintendents, construction managers and General Contractors. Also, communicates effectively with all project managers, administrative assistants and other departments through meetings, memos, e-mails, etc.
4. Assists with coordination proper manpower and equipment for each job.
5. Conducts/attends weekly job-site visits and job meetings.
6. Assists with proper job setup and contract review. Helps to ensure that estimated costs and schedule of values are done in a timely and accurate manner.
7. Generates project manager reports and attends project management meetings as appropriate.
8. For each project: tracks submittals, generates purchase orders and negotiates subcontracts and purchases.
9. All other duties as assigned.
Experience/Qualifications:
  • Experience/Qualifications Required:
    • Minimum 1-year mechanical experience and/or related educational background.
  • Job Skills:
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
    • Knowledge of general plumbing and piping installation.
    • Good math ability.
    • Good basic computer skills.
    • Detail oriented.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • General accounting skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Education:
    • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering or equivalent is preferred.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Able to walk job sites.
  • Special Requirements:
    • Valid Driver's License.
    • OSHA 10 Construction card/certificate.
