Job description

Company Overview: The Ultra-Met Company is a leading independent manufacturer of tungsten carbide products for fabricators and tool makers that will be used in a wide range of industries such as the automotive, aerospace, medical, petroleum, and woodworking industries. Our products primarily consist of cutting tools and wear products. The manufacturing process involves the use of Tungsten powder, pressing, forming, sintering, and grinding operations. We are a locally owned, privately held, long-term growth-oriented company.

Summary: The primary responsibilities of this position are managing all hands-on operational procedures of the company. This position is responsible for the performance of all department functions including Manufacturing, Material Management, Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, On-Time Delivery, Quality Standards and Safety. This position directly reports to the President. This position assists the President in the aggressive and successful growth of the company. Guided by the objectives of the company, this position provides the leadership, management, and vision, necessary to ensure the company has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, people, and systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and approving plans for the control of planned outputs, budget spending, labor efficiency, material efficiency, and engineering effectiveness
  • Leading the engineering/metallurgy team to successfully manufacture cemented tungsten carbide parts and powder
  • Presenting monthly reports on performance to management team
  • Reviewing and monitoring cost control reports, cost estimates, and manpower
  • Forecasting manpower and facility requirements.
  • Working closely with other departments to ensure company goals are met
  • Reviewing and approving major projects involving operations
  • Developing plans for improvement of manufacturing process
  • Developing and recommending changes or new operation policies
  • Ensuring duties, responsibilities, and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood
  • Defining objectives and goals for the operations division
  • Developing short-term and long-term goals within budget constraints
  • Monitoring implementation of manufacturing and organizations plans
  • Developing and establishing objectives and procedures overseeing performance of operations
  • Establishing objectives to direct reports and reviews performance
  • Monitoring, directing and appraising performance of direct reportsIdentifying, developing and coordinating training and coaching needs and procedures
  • Facilitating communication and problem solving between departments.
  • Consulting with upper management concerning policy or major procedural changes
  • Providing recommendations for improving the effectiveness of policies and procedures
  • Reviewing budget proposals received from direct reports
Qualifications:
  • BS in Engineering or Business
  • Experience and knowledge in the manufacturing of Cemented Tungsten Carbide including Metallurgy, Testing, and Quality Control
  • Minimum 10 years in division level management role
  • Proven ability to manage for growth and profitability
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills and ability to multi-task
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Results oriented
