The ideal candidate brings a well-established technical background and reputation capable of fulfilling the core functions of the position: innovation, professional branding, technical sales, project leadership, and technical quality.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Develop externally funded and internal R&D projects to drive industry-altering technology innovation solutions and objectivesLead technical dialogue with customers, particularly key or high-value accounts, to identify and mature project opportunitiesWrite proposals that meet clients’ technical needs and provide a clear value propositionServe as technical liaison for key accounts specific to your area of expertiseAssist with the promotion of EWI’s technical capabilities through publications, conferences, technical committees, and marketing content developmentDevelop a strong pipeline of project work to ensure technology sustainability at EWIProvide technical oversight during project execution to ensure appropriate technical approaches are employed, takes responsibility for quality of results and deliverables to clients (including reports)Prepare client reports and present project results to clients for larger or more visible projectsStay current with industry trends and technical advancementsKNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:Strong foundation in material sciences and fracture mechanics with an understanding of environmental impacts on material performance and structural integrity.Deep working knowledge in engineering disciplines such as: fracture mechanics, environmentally-assisted cracking, corrosion/materials degradation, and failure analysisWorking knowledge in complimentary technologies such as: mechanical and metallurgical testing methods, thermophysical modeling, and non-destructive evaluation (NDE) methodsExperience or familiarity with testing and engineering assessment of materials under specific environmental conditions (aqueous corrosion, sour environments, H2, CO2)Deep working knowledge of how to apply relevant codes and standards: ASTM, ASME, API, AWS, ISO, etc.Proficiency in executing scientific research and performing experimental analysisExisting understanding of technical challenges in key markets including, but not limited to, oil and gas, power generation, heavy manufacturing, and automotive industriesUtilizes judgment in communication styles and behaviors; recognizes impact on other team membersExhibits proficient written and verbal communication with customers both internal and externalProven adaptability and flexibility as a part of teamAbility to maintain excellent customer relationships both internal and externalProven success in a team-oriented environmentStrong ability to plan and organize tasksProficient with Microsoft Office softwareWillingness to travel (10%) to customer's and conferencesPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Office environment and laboratory/light production floor with ventilation, climate-control system, moderate lighting, and moderate noise level;Use finger and hand dexterity to type, adjust, move, handle, perform, operate, install, attach, remove, apply, grasp, grip, manipulate, and measure;Use vision to see, analyze, and adjust;Frequently move, transport, rotate, reach, pull, twist, adjust position, push, stand, stoop, bend and crouch; andLift ten to 20 pounds on a frequent basis and 40 to 80 pounds occasionallyEDUCATION:Minimum of B.S. in Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy or related fieldAdvanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) preferredEXPERIENCE:Minimum five (5) or more years of industrial or R&D experienceEXPORT CONTROLS - This position requires access to information and technology that is subject to U.S. export controls.
