Summary:

This role will support Brake Performance engineering test and development activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute vehicle braking tests at external proving grounds, public roads, and specialized test facilities, ensuring adherence to rigorous test cycles and safety protocols.
  • Develop brake performance and braking comfort through
  • Test and develop the harmonious interaction between brake and drivetrain actuators
  • Develop & track metrics and targets for vehicle-level performance
  • Pass down requirements to systems and components
  • Develop and refine testing methodologies to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Support simulation development to predict vehicle performance
  • Implement innovative technical concepts and solutions that enable optimal brake performance
  • Execute vehicle validation and lead data analysis and issue resolution
  • Monitor fleet performance via dashboards
  • Lead and report on FMVSS-related testing
  • Utilize data acquisition tools to collect data, analyze and report results.
  • Perform vehicle tuning and instrument vehicles for objective tests.
  • Analyze and resolve complex problems independently or with minimal guidance.
  • Negotiate with other departments internally and suppliers externally to meet the spec requirements.
  • Search new ways to increase overall efficiency, utilize up-to-date technology.
  • Travel to client / test sites required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 5+ years of brake testing experience
  • Education with the following specialties preferred: Mechanical, Mechanical Technology, Aerospace, Automotive, Manufacturing.
  • Minimum 5 yrs experience with brake development and vehicle testing experience
  • Excellent understanding of hydraulic braking system and/or electro mechanical braking systems including controllers and stability functions
  • Familiarity with physical full vehicle driving experience on different surface conditions (snow, ice etc.)
  • Ability to test in vehicle at or near the physical limits of the vehicle
  • Experience in vehicle-level and bench level brake integration
  • Hands-on experience with vehicles, instrumentation, and data acquisition
  • Familiarity with FMVSS related braking tests
  • Willingness to frequently travel within the continental US (within CA, AZ, MI, OH, MN)
  • Experience with brake performance tools and software (ex: CANalyzer, INCA, MDA, MATLAB/Simulink, Racelogic VBOX)
  • Test track / driving experience required for test driving.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS office
  • Formula SAE (FSAE), BAJA SAE, EcoCar, Mini BAJA SAE, experience preferred
  • Hands on experience with wrenching and vehicle instrumentation preferred.

The pay range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base pay only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations.
