Job description

Position Description: Pavement Line Stripe Technician

Professional Pavement Services is a family owned, full-service paving, construction, and property maintenance contractor serving Central and Northern Ohio. We offer comprehensive, year-round construction and maintenance services, including asphalt, concrete, landscaping, power washing, and winter operations. Our mission is to build lasting partnerships and exceed expectations through quality work, safety, and integrity. We take pride in doing things the right way, supporting our team, and delivering work we can stand behind. Built on teamwork, accountability, and respect, we’re looking for people who want steady, hands-on work and the opportunity to grow with a company that invests in its people and serves its communities year-round.

 Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pavement Line Stripe Technician to join our paving and maintenance crew. The Applicator will perform hands-on tasks related to painting pavement markings, such as parking lines, crosswalks, and symbols, for residential, commercial, and municipal projects and applying sealcoats to asphalt surfaces when there are no current striping assignments. This role requires physical stamina, precision, and a commitment to safety and quality. The ideal candidate will work under the supervision of a foreman, collaborating with the team to protect and enhance asphalt surfaces efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Paint Striping Application: Use striping machines, hand applicators, or stencils to paint parking lines, arrows, crosswalks, and ADA-compliant markings, that meet project specifications.
  • Sealcoat Application: Apply sealcoat to asphalt surfaces using Sealant machine, spray wands, squeegees, or brushes, ensuring even coverage and proper thickness.
  • Surface Preparation: Clean asphalt surfaces by sweeping, blowing, or pressure washing; assist with crack filling (hot/cold crack seal), patching, or taping off areas in preparation.
  • Sport Court Finishing: Perform maintenance and finishing, including crack filling, color sealing, resurfacing, and precise striping to ensure high-quality, durable, and visually appealing athletic surfaces.
  • Material Handling: Mix sealcoat materials or load paint into striping equipment, adding sand, additives, or glass beads as directed.
  • Quality Assurance: Inspect work during and after application to ensure smooth sealcoat coverage and clear, durable striping; correct minor issues like drips or uneven lines as instructed.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean and maintain tools and equipment, such as sprayers, squeegees, and striping machines, to prevent clogs and ensure operational readiness.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), and stay alert to hazards like chemical exposure, traffic, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Team Support: Assist other crew members with setup, cleanup, or traffic control, contributing to a cohesive workflow and timely project completion.
  • Seasonal Duties: Assist with snow removal and de-icing during winter months.
  • Other: Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 1–2 years of experience in paint striping, sealcoating, or road construction/paving work preferred; entry-level candidates with a willingness to learn are welcome.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods, perform repetitive motions, and work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat and humidity.
  • Skills: Familiarity with paint striping and sealcoating techniques; good hand-eye coordination for precise application; ability to follow detailed instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license required. Must meet insurability standard. The ability to tow trailers or transport equipment is a plus.
  • Additional Requirements: Ability to pass a drug test as part of a drug-free workplace policy.
  • Phone: Must have cell phone to clock in and out daily, log jobs, and follow other company communications.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed outdoors at residential, commercial, or municipal properties, depending on the project.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, heavy materials, and seasonal weather is common; some tasks may involve heights or confined spaces.
  • Schedule is typically Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime or weekend work during peak construction or landscaping seasons (spring through fall).
  • Rare but possible multi-day, out-of-town trips, including long-distance travel, and overnight stays.

Salary and Benefits

  • Pay Range: Starting wage aligns with local non-union standards (apart from prevailing wage jobs) and is commensurate with experience, versatility, and additional skills like lawncare/chemical application.
  • Benefits:
    • Medical-partial percentage paid by the company after 60 days,
    • Dental and vision after 60 days,
    • 401K with a company match after 6 months of employment,
    • Vesting PTO immediately, along with other ancillary benefits,
    • 90-day probation period.
