Job description

We are seeking a Concrete Paving Superintendent to lead operations on a major interstate highway expansion project around the St. Louis, MO metro area. This role oversees slipform paving, crew supervision, and quality control across roadway and large-scale slab paving work. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership in heavy civil concrete paving and if outside the immediate area would be open to relocation.

Key Responsibilities – Concrete Paving Superintendent

  • Supervise daily concrete paving operations, including labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Oversee slipform paving, stringline/stringless operations, and finishing processes for smoothness and uniformity.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, GPS technicians, and inspectors to keep work on schedule.
  • Monitor concrete quality, slump, air content, curing timing, and compliance with specifications.
  • Track production rates, paving quantities, and performance metrics, communicating progress to leadership.

Qualifications – Concrete Paving Superintendent

  • Experience in heavy civil construction with a focus on concrete paving, such as roadways, highways, or large slabs. (5+ years in Supervisory role)
  • Prior supervisory experience required; current/previous Superintendent title preferred, though experienced Foremen with strong concrete backgrounds will be considered.
  • Working knowledge of slipform pavers, dowel bar inserters, curing equipment, and finishing machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, paving plans, and specifications.
  • DOT project experience preferred; valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications – Concrete Paving Supervisor

  • Experience with GPS/stringless paving systems.
  • Proficiency in construction management software.
  • Background on DOT-regulated highway or airfield projects.
  • Comfortable multitasking in a fast-paced outdoor construction environment.
  • Strong communication and mentoring skills for training crew members.

Physical Requirements – Concrete Paving Superintendent

  • Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl throughout the workday.
  • Frequent standing and walking on active job sites.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs as needed.
  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions typical of highway construction.
  • On-site presence required; some travel between project locations possible.
