Allow us to introduce ourselves…

The Weidmann Group of companies is active in some of the world’s most vital fields namely energy and medical. Our technology and our knowhow contribute crucial resources to a worldwide market, whether it be leading the global market in transformer electrical insulation, keeping the lights on for billions of consumers, or the delivery of a breakthrough drug through our advanced plastics technologies for medical and pharmaceutical applications.

The role…

The Converting Manager provides strategic leadership for the Converting department. This role is responsible for building a high-performing, multi-shift organization that delivers strong results in safety, quality, service, and cost. This is a strategic leadership role — not a day-to-day floor position. While strong manufacturing expertise is required, the focus is on developing leaders, building effective systems, and creating accountability that enables the operation to run successfully across shifts. The department includes 70+ employees, 18 machines, and evolving 24/7 operations. Success in this role requires the ability to manage complexity, strengthen leadership capability, and ensure operational stability across multiple schedules.

How you’ll make an impact…

  • Provide strategic direction for 24/7 converting operations, aligning people, processes, and performance with site
  • Lead by example in a values-driven culture, aligning teams with the company’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Develop and elevate Operations Leaders and Frontline Leaders, building a culture of ownership, accountability, and independent decision-making.
  • Create systems that allow leaders to lead — implementing structured daily management, performance routines, and clear accountability frameworks.
  • Champion a proactive safety-first culture, ensuring full compliance with OSHA and ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards.
  • Monitor and improve key performance metrics such as OEE, yield, scrap, throughput, changeovers, and on-time delivery.
  • Lead and sustain Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Standardize processes and drive root cause problem-solving to create long-term stability.
  • Provide financial leadership for the department, including labor strategy, budget management, cost optimization, and capital planning.
  • Work closely with Planning, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and Logistics to ensure production meets customer and schedule requirements.

What do you bring…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience in complex, multi-shift or 24/7 environments.
  • Demonstrated success in building and developing leaders — not simply managing teams, but coaching, mentoring, and growing leadership capability.
  • Proven expertise in make-to-order production environments.
  • Strong background in Lean Six Sigma, TPM, and operational excellence systems implementation.
  • Experience with ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 preferred.
  • Strong ERP proficiency required; SAP experience preferred.
  • Solid financial acumen, including labor modeling, cost control, budgeting, and productivity analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate strategically — balancing long-term planning with operational execution.
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence across functions and levels of the organization.

What do we offer?

  • Medical insurance with an accompanying health savings account, vision and dental insurance, PTO starting your FIRST day
  • 401k plan with company match, Company paid basic life and AD&D insurance, STD and LTD
  • Employee assistance program
  • Employee referral program
  • Additional company programs include: Wellness, clothing allowance, computer loan, and tuition reimbursement
  • An award-winning atmosphere! Weidmann was named Best Employer of Champaign County
