Mechanical Tool Designer – Manufacturing Automation Location: Lewis Center, OH Experience: 5–7 Years Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Tool Designer to design and develop manufacturing automation systems, tooling, fixtures, material handling equipment, and high-speed automation solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, industrial automation, robotics, conveyors, tooling, and machine design. Key Responsibilities Review designs for manufacturability, machining processes, materials, finishes, hardness, and dimensional accuracy. Ensure designs comply with applicable OSHA, CE, ISO, and customer-specific standards. Coordinate with electrical designers regarding switches, load cells, LVDTs, I/O devices, and other electrical requirements. Work with controls/programming teams to review machine operations and sequencing. Support fabricators, machinists, toolmakers, and electricians during machine build, debug, integration, and troubleshooting. Coordinate with vendors and customers regarding technical specifications and project requirements. Lead or supervise mechanical design activities and delegate work to a team of designers. Coordinate effectively with onsite/offshore teams of 10–12 members. Communicate project progress, resource requirements, and time estimates to project managers and engineering leadership. Maintain project documentation, drawing registers, schedules, requisitions, and related engineering records. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. 5–7 years of mechanical design/tooling experience in manufacturing or industrial automation. Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Experience designing manufacturing automation, tooling, fixtures, conveyors, SPMs, and material handling systems. Experience with pneumatic, servo, and robotic automation systems. Knowledge of bowl feeder selection, sensor selection, and high-speed automation line design. Strong knowledge of mechanical standard components and purchased parts. Understanding of electrical devices such as switches, load cells, and LVDTs. Ability to conceptualize and develop solutions for complex mechanical design requirements. Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work with onsite/offshore engineering teams and cross-functional groups. Preferred Industry Background Industrial Automation Manufacturing Automation Machine Design Special Purpose Machinery (SPM) Robotics & Automation Automotive Manufacturing Assembly Automation Tooling & Fixtures
