Job description

The Merchant Building is a 32-story transformational mixed-use development featuring a luxury hotel, private residences, and a members' club, opening in 2027. Situated at the center of Columbus and anchored by the historic North Market, the building rises within a city poised for extraordinary growth and renewed cultural vitality.

The history of the North Market reflects the story of America itself, one of purpose, resilience, community, and preservation. The Merchant Building draws inspiration from this legacy and is unified by the spirit of the merchants who believed that dedication and hard work deserve reward.

Here, design and service come together to create a carefully curated environment, one that offers a refined and private lifestyle experience. A vertical neighborhood where living, hospitality, wellness, work, and community are thoughtfully integrated, all guided by a single ethos: make life better through care, craft, and service. Life at The Merchant Building will be defined by hospitality-centered living, seamless luxury delivered with quiet ease. It is a place where every day will feel more special than anywhere else.

The Assistant Director of Finance is a quiet steward of that balance, supporting the integrity of our financial operations through disciplined accounting, thoughtful reporting, and attentive budget oversight.

In close partnership with the Director of Finance and property leadership, this role ensures clarity, accuracy, and intention across all financial touchpoints—upholding standards, enabling performance, and informing decisions that shape the guest experience.

Requested Tasks

  • Assist the Director of Finance in overseeing daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and general ledger activity
  • Support the month-end closing process and preparation of financial statements
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for hotel operations
  • Monitor departmental financial performance and support cost control initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal financial controls
  • Assist with audits and financial reviews as required
  • Maintain organized financial records and documentation
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to support financial planning and reporting
  • Support financial systems and reporting tools used at the property
  • Adhere to Makeready’s Guiding Principles, policies and procedures
  • Additional responsibilities and assignments as needed

Requested Capabilities

  • Prior experience in hotel accounting or hospitality finance preferred
  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting operations
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Experience with hotel financial systems or property management systems preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Professional communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed

As part of Makeready, we offer a benefits experience designed with intention—supporting the full life of our team, not just their time at work. Eligible team members have access to flexible PTO and PTO exchange, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, parental leave, pet insurance, company-matched dependent care and 401(k), student loan repayment support, and a thoughtful range of additional benefits.

We believe our best work happens when our people feel supported, seen, and set up to thrive—at work and beyond.

Our Guiding Principles are the foundation of how we show up for one another and for our guests. They’re not rules to follow—they’re second nature to us, shaping how we think, act, and build together every day.

Makeready LLC and its affiliated entities are proud to encourage and support an environment where everyone can be a successful team member as their true independent self. We are an equal opportunity workplace and employer that does not discriminate based on race, color, disability, gender/sex, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, age, veteran status, or any other protected status. We are committed to building a team and a workplace where we are all able to be successful based solely on our individual qualifications, experience, abilities, and job performance.
