Job description

Primary Responsibilities

Integrated Protection Services (IPS) is seeking an experienced and highly skilled EST4 Fire Alarm Technician to join our Columbus team. This position is responsible for the installation, programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, inspection, service, and repair of Edwards EST4 fire alarm systems and associated life safety systems in accordance with all applicable fire alarm, electrical, and building codes.

The ideal candidate will possess strong EST4 programming and field troubleshooting experience, demonstrate professionalism with customers and team members, and serve as a mentor to junior technicians in the field.

Essential Functions

  • Install, program, commission, test, troubleshoot, service, and repair Edwards EST4 fire alarm systems
  • Interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, submittals, specifications, sequence of operations, and manufacturer documentation
  • Program and configure EST4 systems, devices, and network components using manufacturer software and tools
  • Perform system startups, acceptance testing, inspections, and customer demonstrations
  • Troubleshoot system faults, communication issues, device failures, and network-related issues efficiently and accurately
  • Install and terminate fire alarm devices, panels, modules, annunciators, and related equipment per project specifications and applicable codes
  • Install conduit, cabling, and associated infrastructure in accordance with NEC, NFPA, and local jurisdiction requirements
  • Coordinate daily activities with project managers, subcontractors, AHJs, customers, and other trades
  • Complete service documentation, test reports, deficiency reports, and time entry accurately and timely using company software systems
  • Train, mentor, and support entry-level technicians and apprentices
  • Maintain assigned company vehicle, tools, test equipment, and inventory
  • Follow all IPS safety policies and OSHA requirements
  • Participate in manufacturer training and continuing education programs
  • Work occasional after-hours, weekends, and out-of-town assignments as needed

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 5 years of fire alarm installation and/or service experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Edwards EST3 and EST4 fire alarm systems
  • Current EST4 certification
  • NICET Level II or higher preferred
  • Experience with system programming, commissioning, and advanced troubleshooting
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 72, NEC, and applicable fire alarm codes
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical documents
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Valid driverโ€™s license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening
  • Lift certification, CPR/First Aid certification, and confined space training

Physical Requirements & Environment

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds unassisted
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, and work at elevated heights
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and construction site conditions
  • Must be able to safely operate lifts and ladders
  • Use of required PPE including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear required
