Associate Personal Banker

This is the entry level position into the Personal Banker roles. Personal Bankers are expected to recognize that in order to provide Service Excellence a customer's experience should always be consistent whether they are online, using a mobile device, speaking to us over the phone or visiting us in person. In order to maintain this all Personal Bankers must consistently follow and model VCNB Service Standards. The expectation is that an Associated Personal Banker will provide unparalleled customer service, and have an in depth knowledge of both business and individual banking transactions, deposit accounts, and consumer loans by the conclusion of their training. Additionally, they will be actively creating internal referrals through promotion and cross-selling of bank products and services. Associate Personal Bankers will ensure all activities are performed according to bank policies and regulations. All Personal Bankers must have excellent communication skills and demonstrate the aptitude to perform the required skills defined in this job description and outlined specifically in the checklists for Teller, Deposit Accounts, and Consumer Lending. Proficiency for the various stages and the overall completion of the Associate Personal Banker training should be achieved within the time frame outlined in the Personal Banker Development Pathway.

Maximum expected time to attain proficiency as a Personal Banker is approximately 2 yrs.

Teller Functions

Receives training and gains proficiency in:

Operation of own cash drawer/recycler with superior balancing

Processing customer financial transactions including deposit and loan business

Accepting checks for cashing or paying; verifying endorsement, validity, and funds

Selling money orders, cashier's checks, and processing cash advances

Assisting in process of cash reconciliation and cash ordering

Processing U.S. savings bonds for payment

Maintaining established cash handling standards

Consistently adhering to all policies and procedures, including security, check cashing, holds, balancing and dual control

Answering phones, greeting customers, and assisting with directing lobby traffic as needed

Performing ATM responsibilities as outlined by manager

Following procedures and regulations associated with accessing vault & safe deposit boxes

Deposit Account Functions

Receives training and gains proficiency in:

Utilizing customer relationship software and skills to achieve branch production goals

Opening and maintaining all types of deposit accounts, including credit card accounts

Acquiring all necessary documentation and information for account opening and maintenance with a high level of accuracy and limited corrections required

Acquiring skills necessary to consistently maintain and grow individual deposit portfolios

Consumer Lending Functions

Receives training and gains proficiency in:

Granting and servicing secured and unsecured loans with emphasis on consumer customers

Effectively meeting with applicants and underwriting consumer loans

Assisting in collecting and organizing financial data to present loan requests for presentation to Loan Management Team, as necessary.

Acquiring appropriate credit knowledge to understand debt relationships

Acquiring skills necessary to consistently maintain and grow individual loan portfolios

Other Responsibilities and Expectations

Receives training and gains proficiency in:

Promoting a high level of Service Excellence by setting an example in customer interactions and helps to build a friendly, positive working environment for all employees

Participating in sales development activities while adhering to the VCNB Sales Approach. This includes actively calling on prospective customers to develop new opportunities and existing customers to expand and retain current customer relationships, under guidance of trainer/manager.

Promoting and cross-selling bank products and services, and make quality referrals to other bankers when appropriate.

Consistently following established bank policies and procedures and regulatory guidelines

Maintaining work areas according to branch standards or other established security procedures

Problem solving and recognizing customers, transactions or situations in the branch that may require additional attention and take steps to find a resolution

Following established bank policies and procedures

All other duties as assigned
