Qnity Automated Process Equipment Engineer - Entry Level

The Qnity Global Automation team is seeking an entry-level Automated Process Equipment Engineer in Delaware to support Integrated Operations. This role is designed for a recent engineering graduate who wants to build a career in manufacturing automation. Working alongside experienced engineers, the selected candidate will support the design, commissioning, and improvement of automated equipment for discrete and web-handling processes, ranging from upgrades of existing manufacturing equipment to new, custom-designed systems. Structured mentoring, formal training, and regular site exposure are built into the role, with an emphasis on developing expertise in automated equipment and machine vision systems over the first several years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the EHS organization by participating in investigations and completing assigned action items.
  • Learn and apply the Qnity S1M machine safety standard for the Integrated Operations organization. Participate in machine risk assessments (MRAs) during design and execution under the guidance of a senior engineer.
  • Work with site stakeholders to understand the production challenges they face and help develop automated solutions that minimize impact on the area's ability to produce and remain minimally invasive to the external customer change protocol.
  • Assist in developing and documenting equipment standards, and help deploy proven technology across the organization.
  • Provide engineering support, with mentoring from senior team members, for the following:
    • Automation Assessments
    • Capital projects including Statements of Work (SOW), Design Reviews, Construction, Acceptance Tests, Commissioning, and Safety Reviews
    • Site Automation Evaluations/Improvements
  • Contribute to mechanical layout and equipment design work for site projects, including 3D models, drawings, and bills of material.
  • Support collaboration with external suppliers during the design, fabrication, and qualification of equipment.
  • Build working knowledge of electrical design and industrial network architecture.
  • Develop hands-on skills with automated process equipment, including robotics, barcoding, and inspection systems (vision and scanning).
  • Assist project leaders on multiple concurrent projects while building project management and execution fundamentals.
  • Help prepare and gather documentation for Management of Change (MOC) reviews at the sites.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Robotics Engineering.
  • Coursework, capstone, co-op, or internship experience in automation, machine design, controls, or machine vision.
  • Exposure to SolidWorks 3D CAD software; familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) is a plus.
  • Interest in learning web-handling processes and vision system platforms such as ISRA Vision and Dr. Schenk.
  • Able and willing to travel to manufacturing sites (average 30% of time).
  • Interest in learning machine safety practices, including Machine Risk Assessments and Performance Level (PL) calculations using SISTEMA.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and/or electrical fabrication technology, shop practices, or hands-on build experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a challenging, diverse team environment in a respectful manner.
  • Willingness to learn quickly, ask questions, and accept coaching from experienced engineers.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated problem solver.

Key Behaviors required for this role
