Job description

  • Own Outbound Logistics (everything from the moment an order leaves the facility until it's delivered or returned), the UPS relationship, carrier performance and RTS/returns root-cause analysis, weather- and environmental-driven shipment decisions, compliant cold-chain outbound packaging and documentation, and RFID tracking integration with UPS for outbound visibility.
  • Serve as Gifthealth's dedicated point of contact with UPS, building a relationship deep enough to escalate fast, negotiate well, and get ahead of service issues before they hit patients.
  • Own UPS service-level scorecards, rate and surcharge review, claims resolution, and contract negotiation touchpoints.
  • Investigate why product is coming back — undeliverable addresses, missed delivery windows, weather and storm disruption, forecast/demand mismatches — and build the reporting to explain it, not just react to it.
  • Maintain hands-on knowledge of packaging standards, validation protocols, and monitoring for outbound medications requiring controlled temperature ranges (2–8°C refrigerated, frozen, or ambient-sensitive).
  • Maintain working familiarity with DEA controlled-substance shipping rules and HIPAA requirements governing shipment documentation, plus understanding of URAC and/or ACHC standards as they apply to outbound distribution.
  • Work comfortably with pharmacy dispensing and shipping platforms (e.g., BestRx, Power Line, or comparable systems) and adapt to Gifthealth's internal stack.
  • Own the recently installed RFID communication integration with UPS for enhanced shipment tracking and visibility, and partner closely with Operations on outbound flow at the Columbus and Mesa facilities — collaborating to streamline pick, pack, and ship performance rather than owning or running it directly.
  • Lead and develop a team responsible for outbound logistics performance and returns handling.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, operations management, business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • APICS/CSCP, Lean, or Six Sigma credentials are a plus but not required if the experience speaks for itself.
  • 5–8+ years in logistics, transportation, or carrier management with an outbound/distribution focus, including 2+ years leading a team.
  • Direct experience managing a carrier relationship (UPS strongly preferred) as the primary or dedicated account contact, including service reviews and contract/rate conversations.
  • Track record analyzing returns, delivery exceptions, or RTS data and turning it into a forecasting or prevention program; healthcare, pharmacy, or cold-chain shipping experience is a strong plus.
  • Experience with cold-chain or temperature-controlled outbound shipping, including packaging validation and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with DEA, HIPAA, or URAC/ACHC requirements as they apply to outbound pharmacy shipments.
  • Comfortable with data: builds or reads dashboards/reports on delivery performance, RTS rates, and weather-driven disruption trends without waiting on someone else to hand them the analysis.
  • Experience with WMS/TMS platforms and ERP systems (e.g., Acumatica) a plus.
  • A demonstrated pattern of proposing non-obvious solutions; this role calls for someone who thinks outside the box, not someone who runs the standard playbook well.
Core Competencies

Demonstrates expertise in outbound logistics management, including carrier relationship management, cold-chain shipping compliance, and data analysis for performance improvement. Proven ability to lead teams and develop innovative solutions in a fast-paced environment.
