APD Mechanical Assembler
Pay: minimum $19 an hour (Dependent on Experience)
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7am – 3:30pm
Job Summary
The APD Mechanical Assembler is responsible for assembling airport runway signs and lighting systems ranging from 18” to 166” in a fast-paced, non–assembly line manufacturing environment. This is not an assembly line environment—it requires precision, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. Assemblers will receive hands-on training specific to the product line and will work closely with experienced team members in a fast-paced, collaborative department.
Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical assembly of airport runway signs and lighting systems (18”–166”) in a non–assembly line environment
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions accurately
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, air tools, rivet guns, and lift tables for assembly tasks
- Assemble sign components including floor, sides, top pieces, and “J” rails
- Align and secure components using bolts, screws, lock washers, adhesives, and sealants
- Install feet, tethers, and other required hardware on finished assemblies
- Apply silicone, butyl sealants, gaskets, and other materials as required
- Inspect completed assemblies for accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications
- Load finished signs onto trolleys and secure them to skids for transport
- Tag, stage, and prepare finished products for delivery
- Collaborate with team members and participate in cross-training across departments
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area while meeting production standards
- Follow ISO procedures and company quality guidelines consistently
- Assist with other duties as assigned, based on business needs.
Qualifications
- Experience: 2–3 years of mechanical assembly experience in a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment (non-assembly line).
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical Skills:
- Mechanical aptitude with proven ability to use hand, power, and air tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical prints and schematics accurately.
- Experience applying sealants, butyl, and gaskets.
- Cross-training or experience with metal finishing equipment such as deburring and grinding tools.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, or business software systems).
- Pallet jack experience required; forklift experience preferred.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. (average parts typically 10–15 lbs.).
- Ability to stand, bend, squat, reach, pull, and push throughout the shift.
- Reliable attendance and ability to meet physical demands of the position.
