Landing Systems—part of RTX—is seeking a highly skilled Senior Principal Quality Engineer to lead major quality improvement initiatives across its global operations. In this role, you will serve as a technical authority, driving enterprise‑level investigations, strengthening CORE and PPAP disciplines, improving customer quality performance, and elevating the capability of our engineering and operations teams.

You will lead complex, high‑impact projects across multiple Landing Systems sites—collaborating with operations, engineering, supply chain, quality inspection, and customer teams to ensure our products meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance.

What You Will Do

  • Lead High-Impact Quality Investigations & SRR Reduction (Enterprise Scope)
  • Lead major investigations across all Landing Systems sites to improve customer quality scorecards and significantly reduce Scrap, Rework & Repair (SRR)
  • Drive cross-functional teams using structured problem‑solving methods to deliver measurable and sustained improvements
  • Partner with Shainin to identify, prioritize, and execute RedX improvement projects
  • Build organizational problem‑solving capability by training, coaching, and developing new RedX-certified practitioners
  • Quality Systems & CORE Process Deployment
  • Lead strategic initiatives to elevate CORE maturity, focusing on Quality Clinics, calibration performance, and inspection standardization
  • Improve Quality Management System (QMS) compliance through process enhancements and data-driven governance
  • Advanced Product & Process Quality (PPAP, FAI, PFMEA, Control Plans)
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for PPAP core tools deployment across programs and sites
  • Drive robust quality planning and risk mitigation for new product introduction, work transfers, and process changes
  • Inspection, Metrology & Calibration Leadership
  • Standardize inspection methodologies, documentation, measurement systems, and gage processes across sites
  • Support calibration program performance, compliance, and improvement initiatives
  • Training, Coaching & Capability Development
  • Create and deliver training for PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, FAI, structured problem solving, and other core quality methodologies
  • Mentor engineers, inspectors, and technicians to enhance their technical capability
  • Continuous Improvement, Data Analysis & Enterprise Transformation
  • Analyze quality and manufacturing performance data to identify systemic risks and improvement opportunities
  • Support enterprise transformation initiatives, quality roadmap execution, and digital quality strategies
  • Travel as business needs determine 25-50%

Must Have Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
  • RedX or Six Sigma certification with a proven record of application
  • CORE Apprentice or CORE Champion Certification
  • Experience in PPAP core tools (PFMEA, MSA, Control Plans, FAI, Process Flow)
  • Experience with leading complex cross‑functional investigations and multi‑site quality improvement projects
  • Experience in QMS requirements, metrology, inspection systems, and root cause methodologies
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field
  • Ability to influence at multiple levels—including engineering, operations, leadership, and customers
  • Industry certifications such as CQE, CSSBB, CRE, or similar
  • Experience with aerospace landing gear systems, hydraulics, machining, special processes, or precision assembly
  • Advanced statistical analysis capability (SPC, MSA, DoE)
  • Currently possessing or actively working toward advanced CORE certifications (CORE Practitioner, CORE Expert, CORE Black Belt)

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
