Field Service ApprenticeDepartment: Customer Service Reports to: Sr. Service ManagementFLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Range: $25.96 to $32.27 per hour


Summary

The Field Service Apprentice is an entry-level role intended to provide hands-on experience in supporting equipment installations, basic maintenance tasks, and field service preparation. This role supports experienced technicians on-site and is designed as a developmental step toward becoming a Field Service Technician.


This position will be onsite at Aqua-Aerobic Systems, Inc. in Loves Park, IL for the first several months of employment, followed by 100% travel to customer locations thereafter.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist experienced technicians with routine field activities and follow work instructions.
  • Ensure jobsite tools and materials are organized and prepared as directed.
  • Support on-time completion of jobsite tasks under supervision.
  • Identify minor issues and seek guidance from technicians or supervisors.
  • Support simple troubleshooting efforts when requested.
  • Prepare and organize materials and tools prior to deployment.
  • Maintain clean and safe workspaces in shop, trucks, and job sites.
  • Participate in training sessions and demonstrate learning progress.
  • Offer feedback and observations to enhance safety and process awareness.
  • Effectively communicate job site observations to assigned mentor or lead technician. Observe and begin to develop customer interaction skills through shadowing and guided communication.
  • Listen actively and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Work under the direction of assigned technicians, engineers, or supervisors.
  • Build constructive working relationships across the field team.
  • Gain basic familiarity with Aqua-Aerobic Systems equipment, terminology, and procedures. Begins exposure to Aqua-Aerobic documentation standards and reporting formats.
  • Develop foundational skills in mechanical assembly and safe tool usage.

Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn technical field work. Ability to follow detailed instructions and work in team settings. Familiarity with hand tools and basic mechanical systems is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Typical office setting with moderate noise from computers, printers, phones, and team activity. May include occasional remote or travel coordination.

Minimum qualifications

· High school diploma or GED required; experiences or technical coursework in mechanics, industrial maintenance, or a related field is a plus

· Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and a strong willingness to learn technical field work

· Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately

· Strong critical thinking skills or a demonstrated history of problem solving

· Strong customer service orientation with a professional and approachable demeanor

· Comfortable embracing new technology, including mobile applications, AI-assisted tools, field service software, and emerging industry developments as they are introduced into day-to-day operations

· Familiarity with basic hand tools preferred; experience in mechanical, trades, construction, agricultural, or technical environments is a plus

· Ability to maintain safe, clean, and organized workspaces across shop, vehicle, and job site settings

· Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented with the ability to build constructive working relationships

· Positive attitude toward ongoing learning, training participation, and receiving feedback

· Must be available to work onsite at Aqua-Aerobic Systems headquarters in Loves Park, IL for the first several months of employment, followed by 100% travel to customer locations thereafter

· Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is a plus
