Job description

Job Summary

The Project Manager, Construction will serve as the owner's representative for multi-state cannabis facility development projects. This role is responsible for protecting the owner's interests while overseeing the planning, design, permitting, construction, and closeout of cultivation, processing, and retail facilities across multiple jurisdictions.

The Project Manager, Construction must be able to travel 50-75% of the time and thrive in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment and have strong experience coordinating contractors, engineers, architects, and government agencies while ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with local and state regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary liaison between company leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Represent the owner's interests throughout design, permitting, procurement, and construction.
  • Coordinate project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Develop and maintain detail project schedules and cost reports.
  • Provide executive-level reporting on project performance, risks, and milestones.
  • Manage multiple projects across various states simultaneously.
  • Coordinate and oversee general contractors, subcontractors, engineers, and consultants.
  • Conduct site visits to ensure quality, safety, and schedule compliance.
  • Review and approve pay applications, change orders, and contractor invoices.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks before they impact schedule or budget.
  • Interface with local municipalities, inspectors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with local zoning, building codes, fire codes, and cannabis-specific regulations
  • Coordinate permitting timelines and inspections
  • Collaborate with cultivation, processing, and retail operations teams to align construction with operational requirements.
  • Coordinate equipment procurement and installation (HVAC, electrical, fertigation, lighting, security systems).
  • Manage vendor relationships and long-lead equipment logistics.
  • Oversee commissioning and facility turnover to operations teams.
  • Extensive travel of 50-75% is required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years in a project management field, or 6+ years in the trades, specifically construction.

  • Strong strategic and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organized and detail oriented with ability to execute change management.
  • Solid project management, conflict resolution and people management skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective consultative and influencing approach, with proven ability to work effectively with all organizational levels
