    Job description

Veeam is the Data and AI Trust Company, specializing in helping organizations ensure their data and AI are fully understood, secured, and resilient to enable the acceleration of safe AI at scale. As the market leader in both data resilience and data security posture management, Veeam is built for the convergence of identity, data, security, and AI risk. Headquartered in Seattle with offices in more than 30 countries, Veeam protects over 550,000 customers worldwide, who trust Veeam to keep their businesses running. Join us as we go fearlessly forward together, growing, learning, and making a real impact for some of the world's biggest brands.
Location Requirement: Washington, D.C. metro area strongly preferred; other major federal markets considered.
Travel: Up to 60-75%, including customer, partner, and industry/policy engagements across the federal market.
    About the Role
Veeam is expanding its Federal go-to-market strategy in advance of FedRAMP authorization, targeted by the end of calendar year 2026. The Principal Systems Engineer, Federal will serve as Veeam's Federal Principal Technologist, acting as a technical evangelist and trusted advisor across the U.S. Public Sector.
This is not a traditional presales role. Operating ahead of the pipeline, you will engage agency executives, policy leaders, systems integrators, industry partners, analysts, and media to build technical credibility and cultivate champions who will help accelerate demand as Veeam's federal business scales. Success in this role requires deep expertise in data protection, cyber resilience, and security, along with the executive presence to influence CIOs, CISOs, CTOs, and mission leaders.
As the public face of Veeam's federal technology strategy, you will evangelize the company's four strategic pillars: Data Resilience, Cyber Resilience, Data & AI Trust, and Data Security Posture Management (DSPM). You will translate Veeam's platform vision and DataAI Command Platform into compelling narratives that resonate with civilian, DoD, and intelligence community stakeholders.
    What You'll Do
    • Market & Technical Evangelism - Serve as Veeam's principal federal technical voice at industry events, agency briefings, partner forums, analyst engagements, and policy roundtables, articulating Data Resilience, Cyber Resilience, Data and AI Trust, and DSPM in terms that resonate with government audiences.
    • Executive & Policy Engagement - Build and maintain trusted relationships with agency C-level technology leaders (CIO/CISO/CTO), acquisition and policy leads, and mission owners, positioning Veeam's architecture and roadmap against their compliance, resilience, and modernization priorities.
    • FedRAMP Readiness Champion - Partner closely with Product, Security, Compliance, and Federal leadership to translate FedRAMP program status and controls into a clear, credible narrative for customers and partners, and to gather federal-specific requirements that inform authorization and roadmap priorities.
    • Partner & Alliance Enablement - Work with systems integrators, resellers, and strategic alliances (including Microsoft, hyperscalers, and federal-focused partners) to build joint federal narratives, reference architectures, and enablement content that scale Veeam's message across the partner ecosystem.
    • Securiti AI & Data Trust Champion - Champion Veeam's Securiti AI acquisition and the DataAI Command Platform as the foundation for federal DSPM, data curation, and responsible AI adoption, helping agencies connect Data Resilience, Cyber Resilience, and Data and AI Trust to their AI governance mandates.
    • Thought Leadership Content - Develop and deliver technical content - briefings, whitepapers, webinars, conference sessions, and executive-ready narratives - that establish Veeam as a credible, forward-looking authority across Data Resilience, Cyber Resilience, Data and AI Trust, and DSPM in the federal market.
    • Voice of the Field - Serve as the connective link between federal market signal and internal Product Management, Product Strategy, and Engineering, ensuring federal-specific requirements, competitive dynamics, and policy shifts inform roadmap and positioning decisions.
    • Sales & Alliance Support - Support high-priority federal opportunities and executive briefings on an as-needed basis, providing deep technical credibility to complement account teams without owning individual deal cycles.
    • VP, Federal Sales Partnership - Partner deeply with the VP of Federal Sales to align market-building activity to business outcomes - jointly setting priorities, translating evangelism and champion-building into account and pipeline strategy, and ensuring field, alliance, and marketing investments stay tied to revenue and authorization milestones.

Data Resilience, Cyber Resilience, Data and AI Trust & DSPM
This role requires deep expertise across Veeam's four strategic pillars: Data Resilience, Cyber Resilience, Data & AI Trust, and Data Security Posture Management (DSPM), along with a strong understanding of the federal compliance landscape. You can credibly connect FedRAMP, FISMA, NIST 800-53, and Zero Trust requirements to modern data protection, immutability, ransomware recovery, cyber resilience, and DSPM capabilities, helping agencies understand the path to stronger security and operational resilience.
Equally important, you bring a clear point of view on Data & AI Trust in government, recognizing that resilient, well-governed data is foundational to successful AI adoption. You can translate that perspective into compelling content, thought leadership, and executive conversations that influence federal technology, security, and policy leaders.
    What You'll Bring
    • 10+ years of experience in pre-sales systems engineering, solutions architecture, or technical evangelism, with significant exposure to U.S. Federal, DoD, or Public Sector markets.
    • Demonstrated experience engaging agency C-level technology leaders, policy leads, and acquisition stakeholders as a credible technical authority.
    • Working knowledge of federal compliance and authorization frameworks (FedRAMP, FISMA, NIST 800-53, Zero Trust) and how they shape technology adoption decisions.
    • Strong technical background across data resilience, data protection, backup/recovery architectures, virtualization, cloud, and security.
    • Proven public-facing presence - comfortable presenting at industry conferences, agency briefings, and partner/analyst events, and creating content (written and video) that carries a consistent point of view.
    • Foundational understanding of AI, data governance, and data security posture management (DSPM), with the ability to connect these concepts to federal mission and compliance priorities.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the polish to represent Veeam credibly in front of government executives and policy audiences.
    • S. citizenship required. Active TS or TS/SCI clearance strongly preferred; candidates must at minimum be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
    • Self-directed operator who is comfortable building a market presence without a fixed pipeline of active deals - this is a build-the-market, not run-the-deal, mandate.
    Bonus Skills
    • Existing relationships within federal civilian agencies, DoD, or the systems integrator community.
    • Prior experience with a vendor going through, or newly emerged from, FedRAMP authorization.
    • Experience with cloud platforms relevant to federal environments (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, Google Cloud for Government).
    • Familiarity with Kubernetes-based and hybrid/multi-cloud architectures common in modernized federal environments.
    • Relevant industry or security certifications (e.g., CISSP, cloud, or architecture certifications).
    • A visible personal or professional brand in the federal IT, cybersecurity, or data resilience community (speaking engagements, publications, media presence).

    Nice-to-Have Depth Areas
    • Data security posture management (DSPM) and data curation for AI/ML pipelines.
    • Cyber recovery and clean-room / isolated recovery environment (IRE) architectures.
    • Policy and regulatory engagement experience (e.g., participation in industry working groups, comment periods, or standards bodies).
    • Experience supporting capture and proposal teams on federal RFI/RFP responses.

    #LI-TI1
    What you'll get
    • Unlimited paid time off, 12 paid holidays including 4 global VeeaMe Days for self-care and 24 paid volunteer hours annually through Veeam Cares
