Overview
TRC, now a member of WSP, is seeking an experienced Professional Land Surveyor (PLS/RPLS) to lead and support surveying services for some of North America's most significant utility, energy, pipeline, renewable energy, and infrastructure projects.
This position offers an opportunity to work alongside engineers, environmental scientists, right-of-way professionals, GIS specialists, and project managers delivering complex projects throughout the United States. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, oversee project execution, mentor survey professionals, and ensure the highest standards of safety, quality, and client service.
Whether supporting pipelines, transmission lines, substations, renewable energy facilities, transportation improvements, or large-scale utility programs, you will play a key role in delivering accurate survey and geospatial data that drives critical infrastructure decisions.
Responsibilities
  • Manage surveying projects from proposal through final deliverables while maintaining scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives.
  • Serve as Survey Project Manager or Survey Technical Lead on utility, energy, pipeline, transportation, renewable energy, and land development projects.
  • Prepare project execution plans including staffing, scheduling, risk management, quality control, equipment, and client communication strategies.
  • Provide technical oversight and quality assurance for boundary, easement and plat production, ALTA/NSPS, topographic, right-of-way, construction, control, hydrographic, LiDAR, UAV, and reality capture surveys.
  • Review and certify survey deliverables in accordance with applicable state laws, professional standards, and company procedures.
  • Work alongside, lead and mentor surveyors, office staff, and field crews while fostering professional development.
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, environmental, GIS, utility, construction, and right-of-way teams throughout project execution.
  • Support business development by assisting with proposals, technical approaches, staffing plans, budgets, and client presentations.
  • Monitor project performance and proactively manage schedule, budget, staffing, and risk.
  • Promote TRC's strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with company safety programs, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies including GPS, modern survey equipment such as robotic total stations, terrestrial laser scanning, UAVs, mobile mapping, GIS integration, cloud collaboration, and digital field workflows.
  • Build and maintain strong client internal and external relationships through responsive communication and technical excellence.

Qualifications
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS/RPLS) license in one or more U.S. states.
  • Bachelor's degree in surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited program (or equivalent combination of education and experience where permitted).
  • Minimum five years of progressive professional surveying experience with increasing leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary survey projects.
  • Strong knowledge of boundary law, right of way and deed protraction, ALTA/NSPS standards, topographic surveying, construction surveying, easement and right-of-way surveying and exhibit and plat production.
  • Experience using GPS, robotic total stations, digital data collection systems, and modern surveying workflows.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, GIS platforms, or equivalent software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, organizational, and project management abilities.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Preferred
  • Multi-state professional licensure or ability to obtain additional licenses through comity.
  • Experience supporting pipelines, electric transmission, distribution, substations, renewable energy, transportation, or large utility infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with UAV operations, terrestrial laser scanning, mobile LiDAR, hydrographic surveying, GIS integration, or reality capture technologies.
  • FAA Part 107 certification.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar credentials.
  • Experience leading geographically dispersed survey teams.

Physical Demands
This position combines office and field responsibilities. Candidates must be able to occasionally lift equipment up to approximately 40 pounds, walk several miles over uneven terrain, climb slopes, traverse wooded areas, and safely perform work at active construction sites and utility facilities.
Work Environment
Work is performed in office. Field assignments may involve travel throughout the United States and exposure to varying terrain and weather conditions including forests, wetlands, mountains, deserts, agricultural land, transmission corridors, pipeline rights-of-way, and active construction sites.
Candidates may encounter environmental conditions including extreme temperatures, rain, snow, mud, dust, uneven terrain, poison ivy, poison oak, insects, snakes, wildlife, and other natural hazards. Compliance with TRC's safety policies, client safety requirements, and the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
