    Meet the Teamย 

    Theย Mission Interfaceย Softwareย Engineer plays a key role in deliveringย Vehicle Intentย softwareย into the automated driving system at Torc.ย ย This role focuses on developing high-quality, production-ready software that enablesย our Mission Control andย Remote Assistance teams to interact withย theย self-drivingย truck'sย software stackย capabilities.ย ย In this position, youย are expected toย demonstrateย technical leadership, operate with a high degree of autonomy, and drive cross-team initiatives across software, systems, and product domains.ย ย The software developed in this role directly enablesย communicationย withย andย command overย ourย vehicles to sense their surroundings, respond intelligentlyย when necessary, and help keepย the system operatingย safelyย -ย advancingย Torc's mission toย commercialize self-driving trucks for safe, sustained, long-haul innovation in the freight industry.ย 

    Whatย You'llย Doย 

    • Design, implement, andย optimizeย software that createsย the interface betweenย Autonomyย and the Mission Control, Remote Assistance,ย Routeย Advisor,ย and On Truck Managementย systems to allow forย missionย managementย from planning,ย initiating,ย andย updating missions to trackingย progressย andย monitoringย performance throughย telemetryย 
    • Leadย the development ofย real-timeย C++ software components thatย thatย enable vehicle guidance and status monitoring of the self-driving truckย 
    • Translate system-level requirements into robust, scalable software architectures and algorithmsย throughย correspondingย componentย levelย requirements andย verificationย artifactsย 
    • Contribute to simulation and testing frameworks for validation of algorithms under diverse operational design domains (ODDs)ย 
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (back office,ย perception,ย controls, safety) to ensure end-to-end system integrationย 
    • Mentor and guideย peersย through technical reviews, best practices, and hands-on collaborationย 
    • Stay current with researchย inย global route planningย andย analytical planning methods.ย ย Contribute to integration of machine learning techniques whereย appropriate (e.g.,ย route-rerouting,ย learned cost models, behavior prediction, reinforcement learning for tactical decision making).ย 
    • Drive continuous improvement in software quality, safety, performance, and development processesย 
    • Support safety-critical development practices aligned with automotive standards and production release requirementsย 
    • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.ย 

    Whatย You'llย Need to Succeedย 

    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or related technical field plusย demonstratesย competences and technicalย proficienciesย typicallyย acquiredย through 4+ years of experience or;ย 
    • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or related technical field plusย demonstratesย competences and technicalย proficienciesย typicallyย acquired through 0-3+ years of experience.ย 
    • Strong C++ programming skills (C++14/17 or later) with experience in real-time, safety-critical, or high-performance applicationsย 
    • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics and kinematic models (e.g., bicycle model, Ackermann steering, dynamic feasibility)ย 
    • Ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code with an emphasis on software engineering best practicesย 
    • 5+ย years experienceย with the architecting, design, and implementation of embedded software solutionsย leveragingย these aspects:ย 
    • Producing scalable code in C++ย 
    • Optimizing code for speed, memory usage, etc.ย 
    • Validating the solutionsย by means ofย unit and/or systems level testingย 
    • Creating technical documentation to communicate solutionsย 

    Bonus Points

    • Familiarity withย fundamentalย AV/ADASย componentsย andย concepts.ย 
    • Experience with observability and visualization platforms (e.g., Datadog,ย Tableau, Foxglove) for telemetry monitoring, system performance analysis, or sensor/log data visualizationย 
    • 2-5 years of professional Python development experienceย doingย solid, hands-on Python development, including writing production-quality code, code reviews, and working within a larger codebaseย 
    • Experience withย robotic/autonomous frameworks (ROS/ROS2,ย Autoware, Apollo, etc.)ย andย communication protocols like CAN and Ethernetย 
    • Understanding of safetyย and software engineeringย standards (ISO 26262, SOTIF, ASPICE, CMMI) and validation methodologiesย 
    • Can execute testing on various test platforms:ย  software in the loop, hardware in the loop, andย vehicle testingย 
    • Research/industry experience in robotics or autonomy.ย
