About Us:
Founded in 1975, Salas O'Brien is an employee-owned engineering and professional services firm focused on achieving impact for our clients, our team, and the world. We know that tomorrow's requirements are today's opportunities, and we are here to design lasting solutions for pressing challenges.
We work across a variety of industries providing integrated engineering and consulting services. Our technical expertise is paired with an exceptional team of business development, human resources, finance and accounting, information technology, and marketing professionals, all of whom play a key role in bringing our commitments to life every day.
Job Summary:
Salas O'Brien is seeking an experienced Construction Manager (CM) to support critical telecom facility projects. The CM will be embedded on site for the duration of the project and will oversee daily construction activities to ensure the work is executed safely, correctly, and in accordance with client requirements, contract documents, and industry standards.
The Construction Manager will serve as the primary on-site liaison between trade contractors and the Salas O'Brien project team, proactively coordinating field activities, monitoring schedule and quality, and resolving issues as they arise. This role is hands-on and requires a strong presence in the field to support successful project delivery in a live, mission-critical environment.
Typical Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications, safety plans, and client standards
  • Act as the primary field point of contact between contractors, Salas O'Brien, and the client
  • Coordinate with all parties involved during construction phases - including clients, project managers, vendors, contractors, landlords, building departments, commissioning agents, etc.
  • Lead weekly update construction conferences with the client
  • Host contractor weekly update and coordination meetings
  • Create Method of Procedure (MOPs) for clients detailing each step of a specific task on a project
  • Monitor construction progress, identify potential issues, and support schedule adherence
  • Enforce site safety requirements and participate in safety meetings and inspections
  • Observe workmanship and quality; identify deficiencies and track corrections
  • Support inspection, testing, and commissioning activities as required
  • Coordinate RFI, submittal, and field change issue resolution with the project team
  • Document site conditions via daily reports, photos, and field notes
  • Support punch list development, closeout activities, and turnover documentation
  • Ensure uninterrupted equipment operation in critical environments; this entails tailoring unique solutions for HVAC/generator/utility upgrades to make sure the site never loses functionality.
  • Update schedule using client online construction portal.
  • Not required, but beneficial:
  • BMS/BAS - some experience and basic understanding of control systems.
  • Previous experience in a mission-critical facility.
  • Previous experience with commissioning.

This position is ideal for a construction professional with experience in telecom, data center, or mission-critical facilities who is comfortable operating as Salas O'Brien's and the Owner's representative and maintaining strong working relationships in the field.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Experience: Five years' experience in the construction industry or as an engineering consultant.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using engineering tools and software to:
    • Develop project schedules and track progress against milestones and deadlines.
    • Develop project budgets and track status.
    • Manage project meeting notes and follow-up lists.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility and willingness to work on various projects and tasks, embracing new challenges with enthusiasm.
  • Initiative: Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative to drive projects forward.

Location: Remote. The position will initially support projects in Southern California but may require extended on-site assignments at other project locations across the country based on workload and client requirements.
