Job description

The Civil/Structural Engineer 2/3 is responsible for technical design to support proposals, engineer of record review, and operations support for a utility scale PV EPC contractor in the US. Their primary function will be leading proposal level design efforts on a project level. The Civil/Structural Engineer 2 will work closely with the Estimating Department, Operations, and Senior Renewables leadership to ensure designs are accurate, within scope, meet code, and are within the corporation’s directive throughout all Renewables project locations.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review client provided reports, such as: Geotechnical, Topographical, Environmental/Ecological, Hydrological and flooding studies
  • Conduct an approximate 10-30% design of the civil and structural aspects of a project with specific focus on pile-design, grading, roads, and erosion control.
  • Work closely with Procurement to evaluate technology, materials and alternatives that places Primoris in an industry leading position.
  • Work closely with Estimating team to capture all the scope of work, design aspects and any specific requirements from clients.
  • Collaborates with the Clients to understand their engineering and design needs. Use this insight and data to lead the engineering group to conceptualize and design efficient and competitive PV systems.
  • Support project teams by working with the Engineer of Record to address civil and structural questions and concerns that arise during the design and construction phase
  • Review and provide comments on the Structural design package provided by the Engineer of Record at 30%, 60%, 90%, IFC milestones

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (or equivalent) from an ABET accredited college.
  • Professional Engineering License (or geotechnical equivalent) preferred
  • 6+ years of Engineering and/or construction experience preferred
  • Preference given for experience in Construction, Solar, BESS, Renewable Energy, or Power Generation.
  • In depth knowledge of federal, state, and local structural regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • Role includes supporting multiple projects site locations with travel up to 15% of the time.
  • Proven experience with L-Pile design software preferred

PREFERRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Interpersonal skills – Ability to present information to a small group of employees or sub-contractors.
  • Effective communication skills (oral, written, listening, presentation) to effectively work with subcontractors and employees
  • Computer literacy. This does not include knowledge of all software to be used, but the ability to learn to use efficiently the software which is in use. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio).
  • Organization skills. Scheduling, planning and prioritization.
  • Advanced construction drawing knowledge. Knowledge of drawing layouts, references, notes, and good practices associated with producing and reading construction drawings.
  • Ability to follow safety rules without cutting corners. To understand the intent of safety rules, not blindly adhering to the literal words of the rule.
