Job Summary
We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer for a direct hire opportunity in Poway, CA. This role is ideal for a hands-on software engineer with strong C/C++ experience, embedded systems knowledge, and an interest in secure device development within the computer hardware industry.
The Embedded Software Engineer will design, develop, test, and support firmware for hardware-connected products, including embedded C/C++ development, cryptography-enabled features, board bring-up, hardware/software integration, validation testing, and technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement robust, maintainable embedded C/C++ software aligned with industry best practices.
- Develop cryptography-enabled features that support data confidentiality, integrity, and secure device behavior.
- Create and execute verification and validation test plans to support product qualification and release readiness.
- Partner with hardware engineering teams to bring up new boards, interpret datasheets and schematics, and debug hardware/software integration issues.
- Perform root cause analysis and drive technical issues to resolution across firmware, hardware, and test domains.
- Produce clear technical documentation, including requirements, specifications, style guides, test evidence, and certification support materials.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $115,000.00 to $150,000.00 per year.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded C/C++ firmware for hardware-based products.
- Support secure embedded software development, including cryptography-enabled features and secure device behavior.
- Develop and execute verification, validation, and product qualification test plans.
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, test, and vendor teams to resolve technical issues and support release readiness.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of professional C/C++ development experience, preferably in embedded systems.
- Working knowledge of software engineering best practices, including code reviews, version control, coding standards, and maintainable software design.
- Ability to develop firmware using industry-standard IDE software packages.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to investigate and resolve issues across software, hardware, and test environments.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
- Ability to participate in design reviews and code reviews and contribute to coding standards and secure development practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience reading and interpreting datasheets and schematics.
- Experience debugging new board designs and supporting board bring-up activities.
- Experience with microcontrollers, microprocessors, and resource-constrained embedded systems.
- Familiarity with cryptographic algorithms and secure key-handling concepts.
- Experience with unit testing or test-driven development for embedded software.
- Familiarity with USB device development or USB protocol stacks.
- Experience supporting products in FIPS-regulated environments.
- Experience working with silicon or SSD vendors to translate product requirements into technical roadmaps.
