Title: Public Safety Officer (PSO)
Reports to: Public Safety Chief
FLSA: Non-exempt
Supervises others: No
  • Schedule: On-Call Must have flexibly on the weekends
  • Pay Rate: $19.00
  • Location: Lake Barrington, IL 60010
  • Must have a valid Driver's License

Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for serving all customers, residents and employees in a courteous, professional manner and to protect the safety and assets of the Lake Barrington Shores (LBS) community. PSO will provide access to LBS for residents and visitors and operate numerous computer applications, databases, and camera systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional customer service in greeting guests and residents at entries to LBS by providing directions, verifying access requirements, and operating the computer access system.
  • Observe and report incidents, check community buildings for security and protection of assets, and provide other duties as directed.
  • Prepare reports and documentation surrounding incidents which occur at in the LBS community.
  • Patrol designated areas within the LBS community - either on foot or in designated vehicle.
  • Distribute miscellaneous items to homeowners, guests, and management.
  • Enforce Association policies, rules and regulations as may be necessary.
  • Receive, process, and respond to complaints and emergency calls as necessary.
  • Direct traffic and ensure traffic safety is maintained at the gates and within the LBS community.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident and LBS community information obtained
  • Distribute temporary access passes in accordance with Association policies.
  • Monitor roadways via patrol vehicle and enforce driving laws by conducting traffic stops or through other approved means to administer citations.
  • Plus, all other duties as may be assigned from time to time by employer.

Skill Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess high school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior law enforcement or security experience preferred
  • Ability to understand local, state, and federal statutes and apply as needed
  • Demonstrate customer service and computer skills
  • Exhibit good written and verbal communication skills and ability to write detailed reports
  • Must have a valid Illinois driver's license
  • Must be certified or be able to certify in CPR/ First Aid/ AED
  • Must have the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Bi-lingual is a plus
  • Must have the ability to acquire and maintain a Valid Illinois PERC along with passing a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check
  • Must maintain a working telephone number through which we can contact you
  • Ability to handle crisis/ conflict situations at LBS, calmly and efficiently.
  • Proven job stability through strong work history

Physical Requirements:
  • Capable of working extended hours, to include evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Able to see well enough to read faint and partially obscured writings or printing with corrective lenses if needed.
  • Position requires sitting, standing, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 60lbs. This movement can occur through the day.
  • Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail oriented, and with good reasoning skills.
  • Must be able to work in small and confined spaces for extended periods of time.
  • Must have finger dexterity for typing/ using a keyboard.

Environmental Responsibilities:
  • Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes, and delays. Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently, and cheerfully under such circumstances. For safety reasons, employee must remain alert to working conditions and aware of safety, health, and environmental concerns.
  • Must be able to work effectively and cheerfully in an environment which may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of duties.
