SALARY RANGE
According to Salmon River Teachers Association Contract - Starting at $58,410
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of Mohawk culture, traditions, history, and community practices.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students.
- Ability to teach through hands-on, interactive, and culturally relevant learning experiences.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience with traditional Mohawk dancing, singing, crafts, storytelling, or cultural arts is preferred.
- Commitment to preserving and promoting Mohawk culture and heritage for future generations.
JOB DUTIES
The Mohawk Culture Teacher will:
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons that promote Mohawk culture, traditions, values, and history.
- Teach traditional Mohawk social dances and explain their cultural significance.
- Lead students in traditional Mohawk songs and singing activities.
- Facilitate hands-on cultural crafts and art projects connected to Mohawk traditions.
- Design creative projects that allow students to explore and demonstrate their understanding of Mohawk culture.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate cultural learning into classroom instruction.
- Provide instruction within classrooms while working alongside the classroom teacher.
- Create meaningful learning experiences that connect cultural teachings to students' everyday lives.
- Share stories, teachings, and traditions that reflect Mohawk history and community values.
- Support students in developing respect for Indigenous cultures and traditions.
- Organize cultural demonstrations, celebrations, and learning opportunities throughout the school year.
- Utilize storytelling, music, movement, art, and project-based learning to engage students.
- Assist in coordinating cultural events, guest speakers, and community partnerships.
- Maintain culturally responsive and age-appropriate instructional materials.
- Foster positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.
- Participate in professional learning and school-based collaborative activities.
- Any other duties as assigned by administration.
