Job description

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Schedule: Full-Time, 8-hour shifts

Cultivate lives at the North Central Correctional Complex in Marion, Ohio! If you have a knack for sharing your expertise on soil and plants with others we have the position for you. Grow your career as a Horticulture Instructor in this hands-on environment, helping an at-risk population receive the treatment necessary for success on their road back to a healthy, productive life.

Essential Duties:

  1. Deliver individualized competency-based instruction through classroom and laboratory management in the occupational program areas taught to inmates.
  2. Develop performance objectives and criterion-referenced tests in accordance with established program content.
  3. Review, select and adapt instructional materials to help individuals reach mastery of the competencies required for entry, advancement and upgrading occupations.
  4. Plan activities to efficiently initiate budget requests to assure that all equipment, supplies and materials are available to support a progressive training schedule.
  5. Monitor motivation, discipline and learning difficulties to bring about positive changes in the behavior of inmates.
  6. Evaluate and maintain records of the youthful offender's progress toward completion of pre-stated performance objectives.
  7. Execute all applicable forms to adhere to facility procedures.
  8. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the vocation certified to teach.

OR;

  • Graduation from accredited high school or equivalent (GED) AND three (3) years’ experience in the vocation being taught and valid secondary teaching certification issued by the Ohio Department of Education required.
  • A valid driver’s license in the state of Ohio with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
  • Must successfully complete all annual in-service requirements and pass an annual background check.
