    Job Overview
    The External Communications Coordinator supports Macy's, Inc.'s External Communications team. The External Communications Coordinator works closely with senior communications leaders to execute external storytelling, media engagement, and reporting that supports Macy's business priorities, leadership visibility, and brand and corporate narrative.
    What You Will Do
    Brand and Corporate Communications Support
    • Support brand and corporate initiatives-including campaigns, collaborations, product launches, events, and cross-functional communications.
    • Draft, edit, collaborate and coordinate media materials, including press releases, executive talking points, messaging, briefing materials, media lists and FAQs.
    • Coordinate executive media opportunities by supporting media pitches, interview preparation, developing briefing materials, managing logistics and on-site needs.
    • Support team responsibilities such as budget tracking (PO creation, invoice tracking and processing), vendor management, internal updates, regular reporting, media database and media list organizations and media website management.
    • Monitor and track media coverage for brand and corporate announcements and news, including the creation of tracking reports, and project and quarterly recaps.
    • Co-lead the development and distribution of the daily enterprise media report, to senior leaders across Macy's, Inc.
    • Provide on-site support for key brand and iconic events, including but not limited to, Macy's Flower Show, Macy's 4th of July Fireworks, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Black Friday; this requires availability on nights, mornings, weekends and national holidays.
    • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
    • Manage team calendars, key milestones, and leadership meetings, and maintain planning documents, editorial calendars, reporting trackers, and shared resources to support smooth execution.
    • Coordinate day-to-day work with external PR agencies, vendors and brand partners by developing media briefs, tracking deliverables, and managing deadlines.
    • Support select corporate and financial communications workstreams as needed, including media monitoring, coverage tracking, reporting, and post-announcement recaps for company updates, business milestones, and enterprise communications moments.
    • Partner with the Corporate Communications team to help ensure brand and product storytelling is aligned with Macy's, Inc.'s broader business priorities, leadership visibility, and corporate narrative.
    • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

    Skills You Will Need
    Writing & Editing Excellence: Ability to draft, edit, and proofread clear, compelling communications (press releases, media pitches, backgrounders, talking points, FAQs, and recaps) and tailor tone and messaging for varied audiences.
    Media Relations Fundamentals: Foundational understanding of media relations, news cycles, and reporter needs, with the ability to support media list development, monitoring, and interview prep.
    Organization & Attention to Detail: Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to stay on top of deadlines and shifting priorities. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accurate trackers, calendars, and documentation.
    Initiative & Growth Mindset: Proactive and eager to learn-willing to raise your hand, take on new challenges, seek opportunities to contribute beyond assigned tasks, and ask questions to learn through experience.
    Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to partner with senior leaders, cross-functional teams, and external agencies/vendors to keep workstreams aligned and communications on track.
    Reporting & Results Synthesis: Ability to translate media coverage and campaign performance into clear summaries, insights, and recommendations for internal stakeholders.
    Technical Proficiency: Experience with Microsoft Office suite, media monitoring programs (Muckrack, Cision, Meltwater, Critical Mention, etc.), Canva, SquareSpace and social media channels.
    Who You Are
    • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 1-3 years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field (internships included). Prior retail experience a plus.
    • This role involves performing essential job functions such as communication, collaboration, and use of office and computer systems. Responsibilities include the ability to access and review written and electronic information, and to move within the work environment and interact with workplace materials as needed to carry out job responsibilities.
    • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs, including regular travel to Herald Square offices.
    • Able to travel occasionally for local and national events and media opportunities.
