Job description

Level 4 Fiber Installer – Large-Scale Fiber Project

Location: Leesburg, VA (IAD)
Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Position Type: Contract

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Level 4 Fiber Installer to support a large-scale fiber installation project in a data center environment. The ideal candidate will have strong fiber installation skills, experience leading small crews, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high installation and quality standards.

The project involves extensive patching and bundled fiber work, including connections between patch panels, devices, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and provide guidance to small installation crews.
  • Perform intermediate and advanced fiber and telecommunications installation activities.
  • Install, patch, route, secure, label, and terminate fiber optic, copper, and coaxial cabling.
  • Perform patching from:
    • Patch panel to patch panel
    • Patch panel to device
    • Device to device
  • Assemble, mount, align, and install data center and telecommunications hardware.
  • Prepare cabling for termination to various telecommunications and data center equipment.
  • Perform cable verification and cable mining during removal activities.
  • Mount and label telecommunications units, terminal blocks, interconnect panels, and related equipment.
  • Perform basic power installation activities, including mounting fuse panels and terminating power feeders.
  • Interpret job specifications, floor plans, equipment layouts, and wiring drawings.
  • Perform complex wiring and cabling operations.
  • Conduct installation testing, including power verification, continuity, Cat5/6 testing, and fiber optic loss testing.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow customer installation procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Work effectively with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong hands-on fiber optic installation experience.
  • Previous experience working in data centers, central offices, or telecommunications environments.
  • Experience leading small crews or installation teams.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret floor plans, equipment drawings, wiring diagrams, and job specifications.
  • Experience with fiber optic patching, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to perform complex cabling and wiring operations.
  • Basic computer literacy is required.
  • Basic Microsoft Excel skills are a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to climb ladders and work at heights.
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills.
PPE Requirements

Candidates must provide their own over-the-ankle, ESD-rated composite-toe safety boots. All other required PPE will be provided.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, highly organized fiber installer who can take ownership of advanced installation work while also leading and supporting a small crew. Strong communication, attention to detail, computer skills, and a commitment to quality and safety are essential.
