Senior Structural Engineer

Location: Savannah, GA

Position Summary

Job Description

JQOL is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing, dedicated, and diverse team. This position will lead structural design projects and work collaboratively with project managers, architects, engineers, contractors, and internal staff to successfully deliver high-quality structural engineering construction documents.

The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with strong structural design experience and a solid understanding of building components, systems, and materials. This individual will be responsible for leading design teams, delegating work, reviewing designs, resolving technical issues, and developing less experienced staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead structural design teams on projects from concept through completion.
  • Develop and review structural engineering construction documents.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Perform structural design and analysis for various building components and systems.
  • Review and provide feedback on the work of other engineers and design staff.
  • Delegate and manage design and drafting tasks based on team members' experience and capabilities.
  • Resolve technical issues and coordinate structural design with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Research unique or complex structural conditions and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate structural requirements with other project disciplines.
  • Develop and mentor staff engineers through technical guidance, feedback, and hands-on support.
  • Help staff understand how other disciplines and building systems impact structural design.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, project teams, and internal staff.
  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, and coordination.

Key Abilities

  • Strong understanding of building components, structural systems, and various construction materials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when reviewing complex building components.
  • Ability to lead, delegate, mentor, and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance or collaborate with others.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Strong structural engineering design experience.
  • Experience with Revit and BIM 360.
